How to say “hello” when you first meet your interviewer:
Greetings
What are the two most important things to make a good first impression?
Possible ways to introduce yourself:
“Hello”
“First name, last name” (i.e.: “John
Smith”)
“Nice to meet you” or
“Pleased to meet you”
“Thank you for taking the time to see
me.”
When to sit down:
If you are in an office, wait until the
interviewer says,
“___________________” or
“___________________”.
If he or she does not say anything, do not
sit down. Wait for him or her to ask or
imply that you may sit down.
Some interviewers like to use small talk to break the ice and warm up to the actual
interview. Possible “small talk” topics your interviewer may discuss:

etc.).”
This depends if your interview is job-related or an academic interview.

When to stand up:
1. When the interviewer stands, or
2. If he/she doesn’t stand up, but says any of the following:
“Alright, well I/we appreciate you coming in.”
“It was nice meeting you.”
“We’ll be in touch.”
“You should be hearing from us in [insert period of time here].”
