Objective
• By the end of this workshop, participants will walk away with one, new strategy for becoming more confident in preparation for their next job interviews.
Preparation!
• Everything about the college pertaining to the position. See sample position. What do you want to know about the college in preparation for this position?
• What about the community? • What about economic/political trends
pertaining to the position? Funding?
Passion!
• You want to communicate about your knowledge of the job, the college, the community and your desire to be a part of the team with the same passion that you talk about your children or grandchildren!
More passion!
• A preference for the positive• A “can do” spirit with experience to
prove it• A vision for the future• A member of the team
Once upon a time…
• Use storytelling to make a point when you’re answering an interview question
• Begin with: Here’s an example …• Stories need to be short, relevant,
interesting and/or funny, memorable
Remember Honest Abe…
• Decide in advance what you want the interviewer(s) to remember most about you and work it in to your interview answers three times.
• This is called “anchoring” or using the Abe Lincoln strategy
Assume the Sale
• Make yourself a part of the team during the interview.
• Begin answers with phrases such as, “We will…” or “Together, we will…”
Assume the Salewith Body Language
• Sit forward• Look at each member of the interview
panel• Smile• Gesture, as comfortable
Practice• Work with a partner to practice answers to the
sample interview questions for the position of Dean, Career and Technical Education at Camarillo Community College. Use at least one of the above-mentioned strategies: Passion, Storytelling, Anchoring, Assuming the Sale, Asking Questions to Demonstrate the Excellent Preparation You’ve Done for the Position!
