This season, we revisit all our favourite haunts – we spend a day following our beloved Schubert around, we embrace the magic of 3/4 time with a languorous waltz, we tip our hats to Beethoven above all (and after all), and we imagine the intersections - and missed connections - of some of our composer friends. Off Centre Music Salon began as an attempt to find the magical, inclusive atmosphere of the Viennese and Parisian Salons of the 19 th Century. At a time when the concert hall experience had become almost clinical in its austerity, we felt the need, more than ever, to go back to a time when music was intimately shared, when concerts told a story and created personal connections for audience and performer alike. This fall, we welcome you back to our “home” at Toronto’s Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre – to do just that. It is hard to believe that we are on the cusp of welcoming our 25th Season, so forgive us if we are waxing a bit nostalgic. This season, we revisit all our favourite haunts – we spend a day following our beloved Schubert around, we embrace the magic of 3/4 time with a languorous waltz, we tip our hats to Beethoven above all (and after all), and we imagine the intersections - and missed connections - of some of our composer friends.

Off Centre Music Salon began as an attempt to find the magical, inclusive atmosphere of the Viennese and Parisian Salons of the 19th Century.

To put the daily grind on hold and together, to take a slow meander through the world of yesterday.

See you soon,

Inna Perkis & Boris Zarankin

Schubertiad: A day with Schubert

Runaway Waltz

Beethoven, after all

Intersections

“I live and compose like a God, as if it had been so decreed.”

– Franz Schubert

“Now is the time when trembling on its stem Each flower fades away like incense; Sounds and scents turn in the evening air; A melancholy waltz, a soft and giddy dizziness.”

– Charles Baudelaire

“There is only one heroism in the world: to see the world as it is, and to love it.”

- Romain Rolland

“The more people I meet the happier I become. From the meanest creature one departs wiser, richer, more conscious of one’s blessings. Even you . . . even you, who knows, will have added to my store.”

- Samuel Beckett
