Our Singapore Country Managing Partner Philip Yuen opened the night with a welcome address where he shared the history of Deloitte Singapore and how we have grown over the years before inviting all guests for a toast to thank everyone for their support. This was followed by a speech by DPM Teo who commended Deloitte for their contributions to Singapore before he and Philip put on the finishing touches on a two-metre tall chocolate art piece by renowned dessert artist Janice Wong, to officially start the celebrations.

Throughout the night, guests were treated to a feast for all senses as they savoured a delicious meal while enjoying an air sculpture dance by the Wildfire Dance Troupe and a Hip-Hop and Classical fusion performance by the T’ang Quartet and NorthLight School Dance Club. Veteran Singaporean singer-song writer Clement Chow, who is the original singer of “Count on me Singapore”, also personally penned and performed a song which expressed Deloitte’s gratitude towards our clients. To show their appreciation for their involvement in making our Golden Jubilee celebration a memorable one, the Singapore practice made donations in the name of Clement, Janice and the T’ang Quartet, to their preferred beneficiaries, making the night an even more meaningful one.

To round off the evening, each guest was personally presented with a customised Chinese Chess set by our Deloitte partners. It holds a special meaning as one of the pieces in each of the gift sets was specially crafted by youths from Deloitte Singapore’s beneficiary Metta Welfare Association. Furthermore, just like the art of Chinese Chess which is built on the foundation of good strategy, the gift signifies Deloitte’s relentless commitment in helping our clients navigate the market and develop innovative strategies to keep their organisation moving forward in the right direction.

It was a night to remember as we commemorated Deloitte’s journey in Singapore at this celebratory event.

Serving up some hearty breakfast to elderly residents at the Kampong Glam Community Centre was what 21 of our Deloitte volunteers did on the morning of 3 June 2017 as they took part in the “Breakfast with Love” programme, held every first Saturday of the month by Hope Centre Singapore. Aiming to enhance the quality of life and social well-being of the elderly in the Kampong Glam neighbourhood, the programme not only included breakfast, but also simple morning exercises and interactive games which allowed our volunteers to befriend the elderly and help them keep active.

“Eat With Your Family Day” is a national movement held in conjunction with Singapore’s National Family Celebration and encourages families to strengthen ties and foster close-knit relationships by having meals together.

Here at Deloitte, we supported this movement with Eatz@Deloitte on 26 May 2017, by ending the work day earlier at 4pm so that our staff can leave work early to spend some quality time with their family. Customised collapsible lunch boxes were also given out to our staff and each lunchbox came with a coaster that has a recipe on how to make Gochujang Glazed Salmon that our staff can cook up for their family.

Netball training with NorthLight schoolAs part of our partnership with Netball Singapore, Deloitte has been helping to develop netball players in Singapore within the local community. In early 2016, we introduced netball as a co-curricular activity (CCA) at NorthLight School (NLS) for students to learn, enjoy and grow in the sport and the CCA has since grown to a team of over 20 players. Since then, the girls have participated in their first public match at the 2016 Deloitte Pesta Sukan and are currently training hard for this year’s edition of the competition.

To boost their morale and give the players some netball tips was Team Singapore netballer and Deloitte Clients & Markets Senior Executive Cassandra Soh, who joined the NLS training at Kallang Netball Centre on 28 April and 26 May 2017. During the training, Cassandra worked on the players’ netball techniques through some passing drills and had fun playing a match at the end of the session. The players also got to know more about what being a goal shooter on the national team is like as Cassandra shared her experiences with them.

For more highlights on Deloitte’s involvement with the NLS netball CCA, visit our Facebook page at http://deloi.tt/2rwf9iR.

“I had a great time training with the girls

from NorthLight School and they were very participative. We all enjoyed ourselves tremendously!”

Paddles up at the DBS Marina Regatta

Deloitte shuttlers clinch first champion title for the year!

Looking to launch a successful sporting year with the 2017 DBS Marina Regatta were our Deloitte Dragon Boat teams who took part in the corporate races on 3 and 4 June 2017. Held at the Promontory@Marina Bay, the DBS Marina Regatta is Singapore’s largest water sports festival with over 80 local and overseas teams fighting it out for highly coveted cash prizes!

Putting months of weekend trainings to the test, our Deloitte team achieved a commendable record, winning the minor finals title in the 200m Corporate Mixed category, and finishing 7th in the 200m Corporate Women category. In addition, our paddlers managed to make it all the way to the grand finals of the 500m Corporate Mixed category, finishing sixth out of 29 participating teams!

For more information on the Marina Regatta, go to https://www.dbsbythebay.com/marina-regatta/.

With the sporting season starting soon, our Deloitte Badminton took part in their first tournament of the year, the China Aviation Oil Badminton Tournament, which was held on 5 May 2017 at the Singapore Badminton Hall.

Taking part in the competition for the first time, our Deloitte team – comprising Derek Wong (Audit Junior Associate), Jeraldine Gan (Risk Advisory Associate), Teddy Wong (Resource Management Executive), Wayne Goh (Audit Associate), Wyman Yeo (Audit Associate) and Vincent Tam (Audit Associate) – had to compete in a qualifying round against 27 other teams but they got off to a smooth start, comfortably making it to the round of 16. From that point on, it was victory after victory for our Deloitte shuttlers as they beat all their opponents to face the team from China Construction (South Pacific) Development in the grand finals.

The grand finals were more closely contested with the winner determined by the best of three games (two Men’s Doubles, one Mixed Doubles). Our Deloitte team took the first Men’s Doubles (won 2 out of 3 sets 21-17, 21-19) but narrowly lost the Mixed Doubles, making the final Men’s Doubles a nail-biting decider. Undeterred by the pressure, our Deloitte shuttlers convincingly beat their opponents to clinch the champion title in the tournament!

This win marks a great start to the sporting season as our Deloitte team prepares for the upcoming ISCA Games! For more information on the Deloitte team or if you are interested to join, please contact Vincent Tam at [email protected].

The 2017 ISCA Games was officially launched by Guest of Honour Teo Ser Luck on 27 May 2017 with the ISCA Run which was the first event. This year’s run featured 4 corporate categories – 5km Men, 5km Women, 10km Men, 10km Women – with Deloitte sending 20 of our fastest runners to compete with the hope of bagging a few ISCA medals.

In the 10km race, our Men’s and Women’s team both finished in second place, with Lim Jia Yean clinching the silver individual medal in the Women’s category.

The 5km race saw our runners leaving their competitors in the dust with all our runners coming in the top 10 positions. Brandon Ng led the pack in the Men’s category, coming in 3rd, followed by his team mates in the 6th, 7th and 8th position. Our Women’s team obliterated their competition with Ho Hui Xin and Angelyn Pang winning the individual gold and silver medal respectively, and their team mates coming in 4th, 5th and 7th.

With 2 gold and 2 silver medals, Deloitte is currently in the lead in the ISCA Games with 10 points overall!

Introducing our Deloitte floorball team

Kick-starting their training this month are our Deloitte men’s and ladies’ floorball teams, led by captains Clemence Yong (Audit Associate), Sri Kugun Ramachandran (Audit Associate) and Shaylene Ong (Audit Associate).

The team currently comprises over 30 male and female players, including national players Wynne Tang and Joscelin Kee and a number of club players, who are coached by Tan Lee Leng, also affectionately known as “lao shi” (Mandarin for teacher). Formerly a national hockey player, Lee Leng currently plays for Albatross, one of the top floorball teams in Singapore.

With an eye on a double gold this year, our Deloitte teams have begun working hard, self-training every week at Valhall, hoping to better last year’s performance of one silver and one bronze at the ISCA Games. A networking session organised with the varsity team from Singapore Management University (SMU) also gave our players a chance to put their skills to the test.

For more information or if you are interested in joining the Deloitte Floorball team, please contact Clemence Yong (Men’s team) at [email protected] or Shaylene Ong (ladies’ team) at [email protected].

On 3 May 2017, our Deloitte floorball teams pitted their skills against the Singapore Management University (SMU) varsity team at a networking session held at the SMU Sports Hall. The session began with our players from different functions sharing about life at Deloitte with the SMU students and giving them a glimpse into our sporting culture. Warm up drills were then carried out, letting players from both teams break the ice and get to know each other better before they went into proper two-sided games. With the teams mixed up, our Deloitte players got the chance to exchange moves with the SMU players who showcased finesse in their stick-work, increasing the intensity of the game. The two teams then went head-to-head in a final round of games and enjoyed some friendly competition before ending off the session with a light dinner.

It was a great way for our Deloitte team to enjoy a good work out before the sporting season kicks off this year!

Taking to the courts with the SMU floorball team

“Floorball is a fast-paced sport, demanding accuracy, teamwork

and refined skills, qualities that are essential not only on court, but at work as well. More importantly,

our floorball team has celebrated victories and embraced togetherness,

which is a strong representation of our Deloitte culture.”

- Clemence Yong

“I always look forward to Deloitte trainings as I get to enjoy the sport with a bunch of fun and awesome team mates!”

- Shaylene Ong

“Being in the Deloitte Floorball Team is not just about keeping fit and

doing something you like, it is about meeting new people and sharing experiences. This makes working

life a little bit more fun and I think everyone should try out the sport!”

- Rochester Tan
