Workshop Design:

Introduction to Permaculture

Introductions - introduce yourself as the facilitator(s), overview of

aims of the workshop, do go round of names & what you would like outof the workshop/any particular focus

Small groups:

What do you think permaculture means? Do group brainstorm onflipchart paper

Open up to larger group:

What did people come up with? Any feedback?

Write a definition together

Then show how weve just used design process - we surveyedparticipants, analysed and designed/wrote a definition. SADI.

Background

Then reveal some other definitions of permaculture on pre-writtenflipchart paper. Show the diversity of approaches & definitions in themovement.

Ethics - show the earth care, people care, fair shares diagram. Ask

people (popcorn style) if what they did on their brainstorm relates tothe ethics

Principles

Then introduce the main permaculture principles using the cards.

Walk around the site & play bingo. People shout when they see aprinciple in action. Use this as an opportunity to then talk more aboutwhat the principles mean.

Offer space for any clarifying questions.

Give handouts & links.
