Before we begin, I would like to know how many of you have ever made a phone call? What if you wanted to call someone in a different state? What would you have to put at the beginning of the number? If you said area code you are correct! Our library has five area codes. They are the different “States” in the library. They are FIC, REF, MAG, , and 92. The colored rectangles below are the different area codes.

Introducing:
THE CALL NUMBER
Our library has many great resources that you may checkout for your school assignments or for your reading pleasure. This lesson is going to teach you how to use a call number to successfully find a book in our library.
Before we begin, I would like to know how many of you have ever made a phone call? What if you wanted to call someone in a different state? What would you have to put at the beginning of the number? If you said area code you are correct!
Our library has five area codes. They are the different “States” in the library. They are FIC, REF, MAG, 000-999, and 92. The colored rectangles below are the different area codes.
To help you understand the call numbers better, it is important that you learn the different
areas of the library.
Click on the different areas below to learn about that section of the library.

Area 1: Computers ~ The picture of the computer at the bottom is the area you are currently sitting in. This is where you look up your books in order to find the correct call number.
Area 2: The couches ~ Turn around and look at the back of the library. Do you see the couches? These are for your use. I want you to notice the grouping of shelves around them.
Area 3: The fiction section ~ the red group of shelves ~ if you are looking for a book that has a call number with an area code of FIC, this is the section you will come to.
Area 4: The non-fiction section ~ the green group of shelves ~ if you are looking for a book that has a call number with an area code of 000-999, this is the section you will come to.
Area 5: The reference section ~ the yellow group of shelves ~ if you are looking for a book that has a call number with an area code of REF, this is the section you will come to.
Area 6: The biography section ~ the dark blue group of shelves ~ if you are looking for a book that has a call number with an area code of 92, this is the section you will come to.
Area 7: The magazine section ~ the purple group of shelves ~ if you are looking for a book that has a call number with an area code of MAG, this is the section you will come to.
Area 8: Circulation Desk ~ Look towards the front door you came through, see the long desk? The lady in this picture is in this area. This is where you checkout the books you would like and it is where you also return them.
Now take a few minutes and visit the different area codes of the library. Take a pencil and a
paper with you and see if you can find what kind of books are in each of the five area codes. If you need help, look above each section of shelves at
the signs that mark them.

• Now you need to find a book you would like to read. Look up the call number on our book catalog and locate your book in its appropriate area code.
• When you have finished reading your book, log onto our library’s WIKI at www.bonnevillebees.com . Find the area code you found your book in and complete the following task under it. Please write a brief synopsis of your book and why you liked it or not. Make sure you include your name, the name of the book and it’s call number.
