    B. Second Main Idea: Sierra Leone is rich of Diamonds (also known as blood

diamond) but sadly with too much corrupt political people leading the

country the country itself is not rich. Other main part in my country we

are very athletic, we are into sports like track and football (known here as

    soccer).

SUPPORT: Sierra Leone diamonds are well-known among the jewelry world to be one of thebest quality diamonds available today. This is perhaps the main reason that blood diamonds

have wreaked the havoc they have had over so many years. The first diamond was found in

Sierra Leone in the 1930s. Since then, a story of brutality and violence has unfolded in this small

West African country. In 1968, Siaka Stevens became the prime minister of Sierra Leone.

Recognizing the value of their diamonds, he made a large profit out of illegal diamond mining

and trading. In the ensuing years, more and more diamonds were being exported illegally rather

than through legal means. In 1991, Sierra Leone was thrown into more trouble as the rebel group

Revolutionary United Front (RUF) launched assaults against the government. A military

government was set up yet proved to be ineffective against the RUF's attacks. From the very

beginning, the RUF found an ally in neighboring Liberia. Their goal was officially to combat

crime and corruption but it soon became clear that their main aim was to take control of thediamond mines.

Preying on civilians, the RUF would take prisoners and enslave them to work in the diamond

mines. This was no fun thing for the civilians as their work conditions were horrible and they

were punished for the slightest things. Anyone opposed to the RUF's methods and practices

would be brutally punished. Amputation was not an uncommon occurrence.

All this was unknown to - or perhaps ignored by - the outside world for many years. UN studies

estimate that about $125 million worth of rough diamonds were bought by the diamond industry

in Europe alone! Imagine this much money being used by the RUF to fund their grotesque

activities in Sierra Leone. The equivalent of this money is tens of thousands of people killed and

even more hurt. But in 2002 peace was declared in Sierra Leone and since then its one of the

safest places to be in West Africa.

SUPPORT: The only thing that keeps us kids in Sierra Leone busy and

entertained from all the wars and political problems are the games we

made up each day and playing football and run track.

I remember when I was there me and all my friends will just choose a day

of sporting event for all the kids around to go against each other and

whoever won they will get prize for winning, what they will get is the food

that we will prepare (food that we dont eat everyday) and we will invite

all that neighbors and then we get tryouts and we will divide each kids into

different colors (red, blue, green, and yellow) and let the games begin.Sierra Leone is an active place to be and you will never be bored because

there is always something to do.

    A. Summary of main ideas: Today I have talked about our languages and how

its divided into the district and its sides of the country. And also talked about

how we have Diamonds and when it was found and how something that could

have being so precious to us began a civil war against each other. So but as

strong as we Sierra Leoneans are we always find something to cheer us up,

like the games we participated with each other playing football to get our

mind of things and running track and making a series of games to entertain

    our parents and elders.

Well today you have learn that for a small country as Sierra Leone you

could think that there will be no problems but there is, but dont forget it

is also a beautiful place to visit and games to attend. So today I hope you

understand that America is wonderful country but there is no place like

    home.
