INTRODUCTION

The MaricopaNursing/Northern Arizona University (NAU) Concurrent Enrollment Associate Degree/Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program is designed for qualified associate degree nursing students who are interested in earning their Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree while pursuing their associate’s degree in nursing. The Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) allows students to pursue an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in nursing while providing an affordable course of study. When followed in sequence, this program enables students to complete their BSN degree concurrently in the same semester as graduating with their AAS degree, or in one semester after. For students who will be completing their BSN following completion of their AAS, successful completion of the NCLEX and licensure as a RN is required for enrollment into their final BSN requirements. Students enrolled in the CEP will follow the traditional course of study for all MaricopaNursing students pursuing their AAS degree in nursing, but at the same time they will also be enrolled in required NAU nursing courses. Because NAU courses are taken online or in hybrid format, all courses will be offered in the greater Phoenix area. BSN-prepared nurses are highly valued by potential employers, and MaricopaNursing/NAU CEP graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills to begin their nursing career with a degree that will promote professional knowledge and advancement.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who can apply to the Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP)? All students who have completed the eligibility requirements for the CEP are encouraged to apply. Where does the program take place? The CEP is offered at a variety of MaricopaNursing program sites. NAU courses are primarily online or are offered in the Phoenix area. Is there a waiting list for the CEP? There is no waiting list for the CEP. If you are not accepted into the program for the semester to which you applied, you must reapply for the semester for which you wish to be considered for enrollment. Do I have to attend a CEP Information Session? Yes. Information about applying to the CEP program can only be obtained at an Information Session. Check your Student Status page for future locations, dates, times, and registration instructions. You must be in attendance for the entire Information Session in order to have your name placed on the list for program consideration, so please plan to arrive on time and remain for the entire session. How do I register for a CEP Information Session? Registration for a CEP Information Session is completed through your MaricopaNursing Student Application Status page. Do I have to attend an Application Session? Yes, if you want to apply for the CEP program. Representatives from MaricopaNursing and NAU will be on-site to verify your eligibility and accept your application if you meet all requirements. Registra-tion for an Application Session is completed through your MaricopaNursing Student Application Status page. What should I bring to the Application Session? Please bring the completed CEP Application, copies of your unofficial college transcripts, and HESI Admission Assessment (A2) test scores. What are we looking for in a potential candidate who is applying for the CEP? Applications that meet eligibility requirements will be reviewed and student selection will be based on GPA, previous college degree completion, and HESI A2 scores. If I am not selected for the CEP can I reapply? As long as you meet the current CEP requirements, you are eligible to reapply. Do I need to be admitted to the MaricopaNursing pool and to NAU? To be eligible to apply for the CEP, you must be in the MaricopaNursing applicant pool. Following your acceptance into the CEP, you will apply to NAU, and official transcripts must then be submitted to both the MaricopaNursing college where you will attend and to NAU. Is there a way I can finish the program faster? Yes, NAU has a Fast-Track program that allows students to complete the AAS and BSN concurrently. Please see the Fast-Track Course of Study for more information. Where can I learn more about the CEP? For more information about the CEP, including financial aid information and CEP application, visit our website at http://www.maricopa.edu/nursing/ConcurrentEnrollment.php

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (continued)

How much does the CEP cost? Tuition costs* for the 35 credits of MaricopaNursing AAS courses = $2,940 Tuition costs** for the required 30 credits of NAU BSN courses = $10,860.00 Textbooks, supplies, and university fees are additional. If I am receiving financial aid, how will it be disbursed between the two schools? Because federal regulations require that financial aid can only be disbursed through one college at a time, you will need to apply for financial aid through NAU and complete and sign a consortium agreement for financial aid disbursement. Although the financial aid between the two programs is designed to work seamlessly, this cannot be guaranteed, so there may be times when you will be asked to pay your MaricopaNursing program tuition be-fore you receive your NAU financial aid check. You will need to be prepared to pay your MaricopaNursing pro-gram tuition out of pocket or by payment plan until the balance of your financial aid is awarded by NAU. How are classes scheduled? You will be registered for your MaricopaNursing classes through the nursing department. Course schedules will be posted on Blackboard. NAU courses are primarily online. Hybrid courses will be scheduled around Marico-paNursing courses. When do web-based classes start? The NAU Concurrent Program web-based classes start a semester prior to the first semester of the Marico-paNursing program and continue throughout the remaining semesters. Where can I go for more information about this program? Detailed program information is provided at CEP Information Sessions. Register in your Application Status Page at www.nursing.maricopa.edu. When can I register for the NUR330 course? Following acceptance into the CEP, you will attend an orientation session. Where do I go for academic advisement for this program? MCCD and NAU are available for pre-application advisement at the individual campuses that offer the CEP. Maricopa Community Colleges Northern Arizona University

Maricopa Community Colleges and Northern Arizona University are proud to serve you

through the RN to BSN Concurrent Enrollment Program. One important aspect of earning

a degree is locating funding sources to support your education. The following information

is an overview of options available to you.

Federal Financial Student Aid

Step 1

Obtain a copy of the Checklist for NAU/Maricopa CEP Nursing Students at the end of this section.

Complete the necessary steps to initiate your financial aid file.

Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. Continuing students – submit

your FAFSA to NAU no later than February 1. The FAFSA will help determine your eligibility for grants, loans

and need-based scholarships.

Step 2

1st semester – Must be enrolled in six NAU hours to be awarded financial aid with the exception of those

eligible for a Pell Grant (EFC below 3400).

If you are Pell Grant eligible and are taking 3 credit hours, you will not have enough financial aid

to cover all of your tuition and fees.

2nd semester & beyond (except summers) – Complete an NAU/Maricopa CEP Nursing Consortium Agree-

ment – Maricopa and NAU work together to jointly fund students co-enrolled at both institutions to

obtain full-time student status. A consortium agreement can only be approved for classes necessary for you to complete your de-

gree.

Step 3

Ensure the Checklist for NAU/Maricopa CEP Nursing Students is complete.

Types of Federal Financial Student Aid Student Loans

Direct Subsidized Loan - The SUBSIDIZED LOAN is a loan that in your (the student’s) name and is based on

financial need. The Department of Education will pay the interest on this type of loan while you continue at least

half-time enrollment.

Direct Unsubsidized Loan - The UNSUBSIDIZED LOAN is a loan that is also in your name. The interest

starts accruing when funds are received. You are not required to make payments on either the principal or the

associated accrued interest while attending at least half-time; however, there is no early-payment penalty should

you choose to do so.

Nursing Loans - The Federal Nursing Loan Program offers full-time nursing degree students, with financial

need, low-interest loans to supplement additional aid. Click on the hyperlink for more information. Please note

nursing loan funds are limited.

Financing Your Concurrent Nursing Program

Who is Eligible for Nursing Loans?

Nursing students in their last two years of their program may borrow up to $4,000 for the academic year, or

a maximum of $2,000 per semester, with an aggregate limit of $13,000.

You must be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, as a full time student in the NAU Nursing Program.

You must meet the university’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards.

Priority consideration is given to students with the highest need, based on the FAFSA.

Preference is given to previous borrowers.

Grants

All grants are free gift aid and do not have to be paid back.

Eligibility is based on information provided on the FASFA.

FAFSA is the only application you must submit for all student aid opportunities, including grant awards.

Grants are available only to students who are seeking their first bachelor’s degree.

Pell Grant

Eligibility is determined by the Department of Education using a standard formula (Expected Family Contribu-

tion) established by Congress. It is based on information provided on the FAFSA.

Only students seeking first bachelor’s will be considered. Post-baccalaureate and graduate students do not qualify

for the Pell Grant program.

Scholarships

Here are 2 scholarship opportunities for which we encourage you to apply:

NAU Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid posts an application each year. A student who submits an

application is essentially applying for hundreds of scholarship opportunities offered by many do-

nors.

NAU Foundation offers scholarship opportunities as well. You will be required to complete an applica-

tion, submit your resume, and compose a personal statement for each application.

Application timelines are tight! Please visit NAU Financial Aid website mid-January for access to both

applications. Deadline is March 1.

Private Donor scholarship opportunities are also available. Visit the NAU scholarship site for more details.

NAU School of Nursing Scholarships – Visit the School of Nursing website for a list of scholarships offered through

the NAU School of Nursing.

Payment Plan

To help you budget for educational expenses, NAU offers a convenient, low-cost option to finance your tuition each

semester. For a one-time $85 processing fee each semester you may take advantage of the payment plan. Your tuition

is divided into 5 interest-free payments. The payment plan is available in fall, spring and summer; $85 fee per semes-

ter ($50 in summer). Visit The Office of Student and Departmental Account Services (SDAS) for more information.
