Introduction
Employee Stock Options have been used worldwide as a major
component of the employee compensation and with the increasing
shift towards performance linked pay, this component is expected
to gain further importance. Several surveys and studies carried
out in the US have shown that companies that have implemented
ESOPs have fared better than the others in terms of Market
valuations, Productivity and employee turnover.
The concept is being widely used in India and has gained
acceptability across all the sectors. We believe that it is important
to create more awareness about this tool amongst the Indian
corporate fraternity and share their experiences in making it work
for their organizations. Given the pace at which Indian companies
are becoming Global, it is also important for Indian executives to
know as to how companies worldwide are using Stock Options
and their variants to achieve skill retention and motivation.
