INTRODUCTION The Central Department of Geography (CDG) located in the University Campus, Kirpur, is one of the leading Departments of Tribhuvan University. It was formally established in 1959. Since then, it has been acvely serving the country in higher educaon and research. The Department runs Master’s and Ph.D programme in Geography and admission is open to all relevent disciplines. It is a pioneer department running academic courses on Geographic Informaon System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) in the country. The newly established soil and water analysis lab has enhanced its teaching and research acvies. The Department has well qualified and experienced facules. COURSES OFFERED Central Department of Geography offers 2 years Master’s level courses under semester system. Master’s Degree is offered aſter successful compleon of four semesters. Courses offered include Geographical Thought; Geomorphoogy; Human Geography; Region, Regionalism and Regional Analysis; Geographic Problems of Nepal; Climate, Hydrology and Bio-Geography; Geographic Informaon System (GIS); Remote Sensing (RS); and Thesis as core/compulsory courses. In addion, students are required to take three oponal courses out of 13 oponal courses whose detail contents are developed. More oponal course tles are listed in the curriculum and they are offered as per the demand of the students. All courses are of 3 credit hours except Thesis which is 6 credit hours. DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES The Department has rooms for lectures, seminars and workshops, as well as laboratory rooms equipped with GIS/RS facilies. The soil and water analysis laboratory is equiped with modest facilies. The Department has the following facilies: GIS/RS Facilies - ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, IDRISI, ILWIS, ALDUS freehand, GPS, Color Laser printer, Mulmedia etc. Soil laboratory - Atomic absorpon spectrophotometer, UV/VIS spectrophotometer, Air-blowing drier, High speed bench centrifuge; Electric-heated thermostac water bath cauldron, Sample pulverizer for plant and soil samples, Vercal pressure steam sterilizer, Magnec strirrer, Thermostat shaking incubato, Acidimeter, Turbidmeter, Electronic balance, Flame photometer, Axotometer, Pure water meter, , Soil sampler, Test-bed Nylon sieve, Stainless steel soil sieve, Refrigerator etc. Soil and Water Analysis Laboratory Departmental Library – contains course books & reference materials, research project reports, students thesis, and internet facility for students.
