Research Conduct and Ethical Review Requirements
• Students are expected to observe the highest standards of professional conduct.
• University’s policy and principles on professional ethics and the handling of research fraud are stated in “The Policy on Research and Consultancies” of the Guidebook for Research Postgraduate Students http://www.ln.edu.hk/reg/pg.php.
• Students whose research involves human subjects are required to obtain human ethics approval from Supervisors. Please refer to the Guidebook for details.
Academic Honesty
• The University places strong emphasis on academic honesty. Measures have been adopted to alert students of its importance.
• To enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of plagiarism, all new students are required to complete an online mini-course, “Online Tutorial on Plagiarism Awareness”.
• Turnitin has been instituted as a mandatory platform for students to submit writing assignments for all courses including but not limited to the submission of final theses for examination purpose.

MPhil HK$17,140 per month max. HK$19,000 (during entire study period)
PhD HK$17,390 per month (before confirmation of candidature);HK$17,730 per month(after confirmation of candidature)

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Awardees:
• HK$25,800/month (for a maximum period of 3 years from UGC)
• Same level of sponsorship will be offered by the University to a 4-year awardee for his/her fourth year of study within the normative study period
• Annual sponsorship: max. HK$12,900 for up to 3 years (subject to annual review)
• Same level of sponsorship will be offered by the University to a 4-year awardee for his/her fourth year of study with the normative study period
Financial AssistanceResearch Postgraduate Scholarships for Overseas Research Visits• for a full-time PhD student undertaking a short-term visit at an
overseas institution for a term and up to 6 months
• Funding ranging from HK$25,000 to HK$50,000 for a 6-month visit

Research Postgraduate (RPg) Programmes
Expected Attributes of Lingnan Graduates
Knowledge:
• systematic understanding of a field or fields of scholarship
• original contributions to the field
Skills:
• competence in research and analysis
• ability to critically assess intellectual claims, theories and arguments
• capacity to produce a thesis that contributes to the knowledge and understanding of the field of learning within which the subject of the thesis falls*
Attitude:
• commitment to applying the knowledge acquired in the chosen field and conducting further research in an ethical and socially responsible manner
*The MPhil thesis shall represent a worthwhile contribution while the PhD thesis shall represent a substantial original contribution.
