INTRODUCTION TO HORIZON FARM TRUST /
REQUEST FOR DONOR SUPPORT FOR PROJECTS ON HORIZON FARM
Horizon Farm Trust is an independent non-profit organization situated on a small farm in
Shongweni, KZN. It is currently home to 32 intellectually impaired adults and also benefits
children with disabilities from the local community. The Trust, established in 2005, is a registered
Non-Profit and Public Benefit Organization with section 18(a) tax exemption for South African
donors.
Horizon is currently funded through donations and grants from family, relatives and friends of the
residents as well as periodic solicited donations from organisations with benevolent policies for
welfare, social and health support.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life of intellectually impaired adults, and children with
disabilities, through the:
provision of long-term accommodation and meaningful occupation for adult residents; and
the development of therapeutic outdoor activities and animal therapy for children and
adults with disabilities.
We are proud of our devoted staff, the care-givers who provide our special intervention services
and the animal assisted therapy programmes, all of whom work with love and care to address the
needs of people with disabilities.

Some of our successful and necessary projects have been:
Building high, medium and low-care residents’ facilities
Completing a wheelchair-friendly residence
Introducing a horse therapy programme, aimed at helping our residents as well as
disabled children and adults from the surrounding area
Building two fully equipped classrooms currently being used for skills activities
Developing a vegetable garden with the aim of becoming self-sufficient in this area

Our wish list, in order of priority:
Additional two rooms for our high-care residence
Improve resident housing with upgrades and maintenance
Medical Care Centre
Increase and improve the vegetable garden
Improvement of the roads & storm water drainage systems
Install solar/electrical systems to provide for ongoing power failures from main systems
Our appeal is for financial assistance and we invite you to become involved in the aims and
objectives of Horizon Farm by joining our much needed family of benefactors.
In gratitude for your kindness and generosity, we will give you
a donations letter which can be utilised for your BEE and/or tax purposes
optional exposure on our website as a donor, and
bi-annual updates on Horizon farm, including notice of events and photos.
