On 13th June 2013, staff and contractors from Chemical Logistics 1 participated in a training session on the topic of “I am a Safe Forklift Driver” and a room full of forklift drivers assembled at the TPC training room joined by our MSC chairman M Nejime san & management staff.

Before the training began, M Nejime san addressed the drivers and thanked them for their attendance and emphasized the importance of Safe forklift operation techniques.

The training consisted of a refresher on basic principles of Safe forklift driving and was conducted with slides depicting examples side by side with quizzes on the relevant topics.

The training ended with a group photo and lunch. We hope that after this refresher training, all participants can confidently say “I am a Safe Forklift Driver”.

Near Miss Reporting

The Difficult Selection Process

Near Misses are incidents which occur that did not cause any damage to property and goods or cause any injury, however had the potential to do so. To raise awareness of Near Miss and the importance of recognising and reporting it, a company-wide poster colouring contest was rolled out through the Main SHE Committee (MSC).

A set of seven templates depicting key near misses within our operational core scope was sent out to participants together with a set of rules and judging criteria. Based on these guidelines the participants let their creative juices flow and a wide variety of entries from sites across all divisions flowed in.

Based on the criteria of creativity, use of colours and drawing enhancements, the winners were selected during the 29th May MSC meeting.

Thank you to all who have participated in raising awareness on Near Miss reporting and congratulations to all winners for your creative contributions.

2 Meter Rule

Be aware for safety of pedestrians in the workplace. When a pedestrian is within 2 meters vicinity of a forklift, drivers shall stop until pedestrians has passed by or are out of range.

Head Over Shoulder

Follow Traffic Management

When the forklift is in reverse, the driver should turn back with head over shoulders to look in the direction that his forklift is reversing in looking through the rear view mirror is insufficient.

Pedestrian walk ways and fire fighting equipment and emergency exits should be accessible at all times. By parking cargo or a forklift in these places could lead to a serious accident. Forklift drivers and Pedestrians should follow marked out paths and not take “short-cuts”.

The Forklift should always have its forks lowered while moving with or without cargo. Moving with forks raised while transporting cargo could result in toppling due to the higher centre of gravity.

Risk Management & Internal Auditor Training Courses

Risk Management CourseRisk management is one of Singapore’s prescribed means for managing risks in a work environment and is one of the key components in the Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSHA).

A revision on Risk Management Regulations by Ministry Of Manpower took effect from Feb 2012 as such, in order to better manage the risks in a workplace and ensure that people leading the risk assessments in various sites are up to date and competent in risk management, Sankyu engaged external consultant for a 2-day course on 20th – 21st June.

During the course, representatives from various sites were present and engaged in activities to simulate real life situations as part of a risk management team.

On the last day of the course participants had to go through an exam which tested them on all the topics which they had learnt over the past two days.

With a passing rate of 100% we are glad to have on board a new team of competent Risk Assessment Leaders!

Sankyu Singapore is certified with quality and safety certifications such as ISO 9001 & OHSAS 18001 and has in place an integrated management system to manage and upkeep the company to these standards. In order to maintain the standards of the system, regular auditing is required. Trained individuals who understand the system known as internal auditors are essential to this process of checking.

On the 17th & 18th June, an internal Auditor training course was conducted in Clementi Distribution Centre. The course went through the elements of both OHSAS 18000 and ISO 9000 standards and various exercises where auditing had to be done on both standards.

We are proud to announce the internal auditors who have recently graduated and are now part of our own team of Sankyu internal auditors.

Charity Drive 2012

Fishing is a sport that requires a good depth of knowledge and experience

before appreciating the beauty of it. Sport fishing is fishing primarily for pleasure

as well competition.

This year on 6 April 2013, there was a total of 42 staff who participated in the night fishing competition. With skills that are always improving, everyone was ready to showcase their ability-patience and skills throughout the

night.

The group departed at 6:30pm from the jetty and returned around 7am the next morning. Unfortunately this year, our employees encountered bad weather followed with rough sea state hence many boats could not come back on time that resulted in disqualification in the competition. On the brighter note, with the right companions and gathering session throughout the night is amazing experience for everyone.

That only boat managed to qualify for this competition with one and only cat fish caught went to Md. Syarifuddin (TPC 2), he was also last year champion for fishing competition in 2012.

Let’s give him a round of applause despite encountering such harsh weather condition.

This is to inform that we received a total amount of $11,289 from the Charity Drive campaign held at the end of last year. This money was presented to the organisation at Bright Hill Evergreen Home on Dec 31st 2012.

We would like to thank you for your generous contribution and your kind gesture will certainly make a more pleasant place to live for the elderly folks at Bright Hill Evergreen Home.

Once again, thank you for your support!

Karaoke‘s Party Night

Annual Inter-Department Bowling Tournament 2013

Sankyu’s karaoke party night 2013 was held on 17th of May, and for the first time at Chevron. The objective of the Karaoke activity is to promote integration between the local and Japanese multi national staffs. It provides opportunity to showcase our signing talents. It is also a useful activity for staffs to discover their hidden talents.

Chevron‘s Karaoke is an ideal venue for company parties or simple get-togethers. There are fantastic set of equipment and high quality service with creative interactive entertainment for all staffs. The party was attended by Sankyu Staff from various departments.

On that day, all of us reported at 6:30 pm sharp. Staffs from different departments come together as one. And it was a great bonding and enriching activity which staffs enjoyed.

What an amazing place for us to sing out loud with latest top hits in all languages, delicious food, comfortable seating and incredible service to have a great party night. Especially the food we had Chevron provides great variety of local delights for us to savour. We were enjoying the tasty finger food and the drinks such as duck meat, rings, hot dog, and fish balls.

At Karaoke party, we can sing all we want with colleagues and friends. Singing is a channel to unlock our voice and enjoy the night with friends and colleagues from different background and different interest. It is a place where we can hear ourselves think and have a conversation while having ourselves or friends belting out our favourite tune in the backdrop.
