Aim of the IES Coalition

To establish an over-arching set of global principles that will re-affirm

the importance of ethics in real estate and evolve to meet the needs

of today’s global market.

International Ethics Standards

IES

► International Ethics Standards Coalition: ► Creating a universal set of ethical principles for real

estate, construction and related professions► This is the aim of a global Coalition of real estate and related

professional organizations which has come together to assert the role of ethics in real estate to meet the needs of today’s global market.

► What is the International Ethics Standards (IES)?► The global Coalition has now published the International

Ethics Standards. It consists of high level principles which will be implemented by Coalition organisations providing greater consistency to users of professional services.

► As the property profession changes and becomes increasingly global, so must our approach to developing and reinforcing professional ethics.

► Real estate is integral to whole societies and economies, it shapes and influences the world we live in and represents a significant proportion of all global wealth. For this reason, professionals have a duty to uphold the highest standards throughout the world.

Supply chains

RICS professionals in Construction

RICS professionals undertake a range of roles within Construction

- Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Contract Administrators, Building Surveyors, Commercial Managers

- They increasingly work with, or for, Contractors and are a crucial player in the management of the supply chain

- Therefore, they have key responsibilities with procurement, contract formation, safety and project/people resource issues

Influencing supply chains

What RICS seeks to do

► Our members and professionals working in construction have a responsibility to ensure that their supply chains are free from slave labour

► Professional bodies have a responsibility to raise awareness of this issue, to communicate guidance to their members and encourage them to act as best they can

► RICS plan to run a communications campaign to members on this issue

► We wish to work collaboratively on this topic and engage with all relevant parties to ensure we support initiatives to eradicate modern day slavery
