Parts of a microscope: Eyepiece

-Magnifies the object 10x

-Can be 1 or 2 eyepieces present

Parts of a microscope: Stage elements

Stage Clips—holds the slide in place

Diaphragm—controls the amount of light

Page 11: Introduction to the Microscope Word of the Day: Objective: one of the lenses of the microscope used to make the object look bigger Agenda Turn in poster

Parts of a microscope: Power, light, and focus

Coarse Adjustment-used to focus, moves the slide a lot

Fine Adjustment—used to focus, moves the slide a little

Light—shines through the specimen so it is visible

Power switch—turns the light on

Magnification and resolution

Magnification is the enlargement of a specimen.

To determine magnification you take: power of the eyepiece X the power of the objective

Example: A 10X eyepiece and a 4X objective magnifies

the specimen 40X.
