Locale Support and Regional Options Enhancements - A locale is a set of cultural and regional preferences that correspond to a user’s language and sublanguage.

Auto-Configuration for Multiple Network connectivity: This feature provides easy access to network devices and Internet.

Instant messaging: it allows users to quickly communicate with one another over the Internet.

Internet connection firewall (ICF): It provides protection on computers directly connected to Internet.

WebDAV Redirector: It allows users at different locations to share and collaborate on a Web data

Remote Desktop: Remote Desktop provides access to a desktop from any terminal services client.

Hardware Requirements

Hardware Components Minimum Requirement

CPU (Central Processing Unit)

233 MHz Intel Pentium II or AMD compatible processor. Although a 300MHz processor is strongly recommended. Windows XP professional supports up to two processors.

Random Access Memory 64 MB RAM. Although 128MB or more is recommended. Windows XP supports maximum of 4GB of RAM.

Hard disk space 1.5 GB to 2GB of free space.

Display Super Video Graphics Array (SVGA) compatible or better display adapter with a monitor capable of 800 x 600 resolutions.

Floppy disk drive 3.5 inch floppy drive (Necessary if the computer does not boot from the CD- ROM)

Network adapter card Required when performing installation from network.

Ways of Installation

Clean Installation - Enables users to install Windows XP on a computer that does not have any operating system installed.

Installation Methods

Standard Installation – Enables the user to provide the location of the Windows files, name of the computer and other settings during the installation process. It is also known as an attended installation.

Network Installation – Enables the users to install OS on multiple computers through a network. The installation files are stored in a shared network folder and then other computers need to be connected to this folder.

Automated Installation – Requires no or limited number of users to enter information while installing OS. The Setup program retrieves the required information from an Answer file.

RIS is a third-party software used for deploying Windows XP Professional

For remote installations, you must have a Windows 2000 server infrastructure and the computer must support remote booting

Remote installation connects to a RIS server and begins an automated installations of Windows XP Professional on local computers

RIS must be installed to a shared volume over the network Remote Installation Services Setup Wizard installs the RIS
