wild. Guess who now wants a pet bird?!

I hope you have taken advantage of all of the lovely weather over the past couple of weeks and I am now hoping for a little bit of rain to water all of the things I have been growing .

Did you work out which seeds were which on the Wonderwall? I have planted these in my greenhouse and they have

A

B

C

D

EF

A. Runner Bean

B. Peas

C. French beans

I am still waiting for the others to germinate. They will take a little longer as they are in the garden.

D. Beetroot E. Spinach F. Carrot

Do you have any seeds at home which you could try and grow? Maybe you can find an old packet in the bottom of a drawer somewhere—the pea

seeds I used were 5 years old and they have still grown!

If you don’t, why not see if you can grow a seed from

some fruit or vegetables you might have around home?

There are some ideas here that I found in my kitchen. If you don’t have a plant pot you can use an old kitchen roll or toilet roll and fill it with soil from the garden.

Who can grow the most unusual plant? Send us a picture, or if we are back to school soon you could bring it in.

I have been looking at all of the amazing art projects you have been doing—you really are talented and have tried so many different things. Inspired by your examples, I thought I need to try some-thing new - so this week my daughter, Gemma, taught me how to do wet felting. It is best done outside, because it needs a lot of water and then dries really well in the sunshine.

First of all we made a white base layer and then gradually built up the layers of felt (which is actu-ally Merino sheep’s wool).

We then added more fibres to give de-tail to our work. We are now going to embroider some detail into the pictures.

A ladybird can eat about 50 greenfly in a day!

The root word for the term ‘compositae’ is composite, which means ‘ made up of several parts.

You need to count each of the

dark ‘rings’: one of these are

formed each year. Some of the

rings will be further apart if the

tree has grown stronger one

year than another. This tree is about 65 years old.

Angiosperms—these plants form seeds in a seed pod

Gymnosperms—these do not form a pod to protect their seeds e.g. ferns, pine trees

I found this egg shell when I was out for a walk. Can you find out which bird it is from? Why do we find the shells on the ground?

I find a lot of these holes around the edge of my garden, do you know the animal who lives and lays its eggs here?

What is the link between a character in Harry Potter and the animal who lives here?

Pear

There is a lot of blossom out on fruit trees at the moment. If you are outside have a careful look to see if you can work out what type of fruit tree it could be. These are three dif-ferent ones in my garden.

Plum

Cherry

How can you tell the difference between a fern and a bracken plant?

How many types of moss could you find in the United Kingdom?

These are some of the names for woodlice. How many did you come up with?

Woodpig Timberpig Cheesy bugs

Gramfers Chisel bobs

‘Once—Story of the Elements’, written by Izzy Crossley, 6 Beech, continues.

Chapter 5

The argument

Olympia was slouched at the royal children’s dorm window when Clementine, followed by Phoenix and Aquata, sashayed into the room giggling like mad. “What’s up with you?” Olympia questioned.

Aquata shook her head vigorously from behind Clementine, her eyes wide and pleading. Phoenix slapped her forehead groaning, “Oh no…not again.”

Clementine slid down onto her golden pouffe and sighed, blushing slightly. “Well… you know it’s mother’s anniversary and the new Legend choosing tomorrow….”

“WHAT!? WHEN!? WHY!?” Olympia panted. Did the elders really believe that her mother was dead? Why had they given up the search parties?

“Yes, don’t you ever pay any attention. It was announced this morning. Although you probably didn’t notice anything since you were leaning over the edge of a balcony!” Clementine snapped back. Aquata stifled a chortle. “Anyway, as I was saying…”

“She got a date.” Phoenix finished, as if to avoid a very long and boring story.

“YES!” Clementine squeaked.

“Not really…” Aquata shot Clementine a look.

“YES, IT IS!” Clementine sat up and crossed her arms.

“IS NOT!”

“IS TOO!”

“OH! YOU ARE SOOO ANNOYING SOMETIMES! JUST ADMIT IT!” Aquata stomped her foot.

“Well you’re just jealous that I got a date with a cute water tribe warrior and your only friend is a bird!” Clementine boasted, sniggering slightly.

Aquata looked hurt and said, “W…w…well at least I’m not too proud to admit that I’m in love with the chef’s son! Oh, and Mystic is not just a bird, she’s an iguana jay, a rare bird of prey.” She sniffed.

“WHY YOU!” shouted Clementine, blushing. She lunged at Aquata. Olympia tilted her head towards the hallway door and Phoenix nodded. Then the two rushed out of the room, leaving Aquata and Clementine to throw things at each other.

Olympia sped down the corridor with Phoenix, leaving her cousin and sister bickering. She couldn’t believe the elders had given up on her Mum! If a new Legend was chosen…….NO! Her Mum couldn’t not be dead, she couldn’t be. She had to stop it. She had to save her Mother.
