ABOUT THE THURSTON EDCSince 1982, the Thurston EconomicDevelopment Council has worked tocultivate a diverse and sustainable economy in Thurston County. As a privatenon-profit organization governed by a 25member board of directors, the focus of the Thurston EDC is to foster a framework that creates economic opportunities forbusinesses and families, and builds theprosperity of our community.

With a focus on recruitment that drivesinvestment into the county, andcarefully-chosen technical assistanceprograms that support local businesses, theEDC is at the helm of a holistic andcommunity-wide effort to generate wealth inthe region.

HOW WE SERVE THE COMMUNITYThe ThurstonEDC is the lead designatedeconomic development agency for Thurston County. We represent the County and localbusinesses on a number of statewide,national and international issues. At theheart of the EDC’s work are three mainprinciples:• RECRUIT investment and employmentopportunities to the region,• RETAIN existing local businesses andbuild new ones by providing technicalassistance and advocacy, and• EXPAND operational capacity for localemployers by providing them with newmarket opportunities.

The EDC does much of its work throughpartnerships with local chambers of commerce, municipalities, institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations, private investors and citizens. From these alliances, the EDC successfully attracts newindustries and businesses.

HOW WE SERVE OUR INVESTORSOne of our primary goals as anorganization is to serve the needs of thebusinesses that invest in the ThurstonEDC. Their investment is the lifeblood ofour organization and we could not do theimportant work we do in our communitywithout their support.

We create a platform as businessadvocates, providing feedback andanalysis to elected officials andgovernment on behalf of the localbusiness community. We host delegations,events and conferences and createtechnical reports and white papers thatprovide up-to-the-minute economicinformtion for investors, so they can usedata to make sound decisions for thefuture of their businesses. And we give ourinvestors an opportunity to help us crafteconomic activities and policies thatfurther our mission and create wealth inour community. In short, we ensure thework that we do will support our investorbusinesses so they can thrive and grow.
