On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to welcome you to the 9th International Congress of the Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC 2019), which will be held from 19 - 22 March, 2019 in Da Nang, the beautiful beach city in the middle of Vietnam.
This is the first time that Vietnam hosts an APSIC Congress and we will do our best to make it a success. The scientific program of the 9th APSIC Congress promises to be innovative and engaging, with a wide range of main and parallel sessions. The congress will be among the best opportunities for attendees to obtain and exchange up-to- date knowledge and information regarding Prevention & Control of Infection, Patient Safety & Quality Improvement. We expect a large number of distinguished international and local guest speakers coming to share knowledge, experience and skills during this 4-days congress.
APSIC2019’s highlights will include:
− Update on prevention and control of healthcare associated infections, especially device associated infections.
− Management of emerging infectious diseases and outbreaks.
− Antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship program.
− Management of medical instruments and hospital environment.

About the HICS
The Ho Chi Minh City Infection Control Society (HICS) is a professional organization of health workers involved in infection control including: doctors, pharmacists, nurses, hospital technicians and etc. voluntarily participate in the prevention and control of hospital infections.
The Ho Chi Minh City Society for Infection Control operates in the areas of hospital infection control and values both theoretical and practical approaches, and aims to gather specialists worldwide and exchange professional opinions to elevate the level of treatment, study and research of infection control and critical care medicine. HICS has boarded with the trend of the world as a member in APSIC and would like to further share with the world what HICS can offer.
About the APSIC The Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC) was established in 1998 and is a multi-
national, voluntary, organization dedicated to the advancement of infection control practice to reduce hospital associated infections, monitor and control emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and improved patient outcomes.
APSIC congresses are organised every two years in different countries in the Asia Pacific countries. APSIC 2019 will be organised in Vietnam and promises to be the largest and most significant event of infection control in Vietnam.
APSIC 2019 aims to bring together multidisciplinary infection control professionals in the region to share their knowledge, experience, skills, and quality improvement and research findings by facilitating the exchange of information through training courses, seminars, congresses and conferences in the Asia Pacific region.

The aim of this training is to update participants on the latest recommendations related to Ventilator Associated Events including definitions, surveillance, and prevention measures. After completing this training, participants will be able to (1) Describe VAE definitions and apply them to example case scenarios; (2) Review the latest evidence-based interventions for preventing VAE; and (3) Understand the key components of the VAP prevention bundle. The training will involve a mixture of didactic teaching and example case scenarios for participants to work through as infection control practitioners. The target audience for this workshop is hospital infection control practitioners, hospital epidemiologists, health department staff, and clinicians working in intensive care units.
