Dear Friends, If you’re anything like me, then you probably start to notice around this second week of January that the newness of the New Year seems to be wearing off. We stop wishing one another “happy new year!” We plunge back into our routines. And the good intention of our resolutions (if we made them at all) begins to meet the reality of our lives. Newness seems to fade. How wonderful, then, that the Church gives us this wonderful story of new beginnings: Jesus goes out to be baptized by John in the River Jordan, and as he wades into the water the heavens open and God declares “You are my child, the Beloved of God!” It’s with those words ringing in his ear that Jesus begins his public ministry. Baptism is also the place where we, you and I, are meant to start. We are meant to start with the assurance that we, too, are beloved children of God, the apples of God’s eye, made in the image and likeness of God and meant to dwell with God for ever. And while there is a lifetime of growth ahead, a lifetime of washing away the love of self above God and neighbor that stains us all, we start here, secure in God’s love. Happy New Year! In Christ, Today at St. James’ Every Sunday at St. James’ Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior

Holding one another’s joys, sorrows, and concerns before God in prayer is a spiritual practice that characterizes our life together at St. James’. In our worship services, we pray each other’s prayers together. Outside of our time together, many parishioners make it part of their daily lives to pray the prayers of the parish community. You are invited to participate in your own way.
