Danielle Muntyan OUGD603 Extended Practice Brief # 17 Birthday Invitations The Brief To design a 60th birthday invitation for Charlie Hartley’s (Director of Impression DP) parents. The main element of the invite is to promote the ‘main’ party which will be a retro theme pool party in Marbella. Brief Type Live Brief Client Charlie Hartley, Impression DP Context & Target Audience “They had the idea of something really fun and the idea they had was something like having their heads photoshopped onto a man with a six pack and my Mum on a big boobed beautiful young woman. However, we could go down this route or I was thinking of how we could play on the Marbella theme, or pool party theme or some kind of well know movie. The key thing is that we have to remember is that the people who’ll get this invite will be around 60 so they have to get it whatever theme we use!” - Charlie Hartley, Client. Considerations The main consideration was solidifying an idea to run with in regards to theme. This would allow for imagery to then be collated and used. Collaging or merging people together on Photoshop can sometimes be quite challenging, so this will be a main consideration in regards to sourcing photography to ensure time is maximised keeping in-line with a tight deadline of 2 days. In addition, I also had to keep in mind the format, A5 Portrait, as well as the content and bodycopy which has been supplied. Solution A fun and wacky style invitation for a Marbella pool party, featuring both parents as fit, young stars on the front as requested by the client. Evaluation I really enjoyed this quick brief. It was very light hearted and although it was fun to work on, I also gained constant feedback from my client and his parents, allowing for the perfect outcome. This brief also allowed for me to progress as a designer outside of my comfort zone, whilst designing for a very specific audience and theme. I really enjoyed how experimental and daring this brief was - I feel this is something which has since come quite apparent across my body of work. 1/4

    Context & Target Audience

They had the idea of something really fun and the idea they had was something like having their heads photoshopped onto a man with a six pack and my Mum on a big boobed beautiful young woman. However, we could go down this route or I was thinking of how we could play on the Marbella theme, or pool party theme or some kind of well know movie. • Danielle Muntyan OUGD603 Extended Practice Brief # 17 Birthday Invitations Research: Aesthetic Influence

    Aesthetics & Tone of Voice

I began looking into imagery associated with both the theme and era that the invitation will revolve around, to gain an idea for design aesthetics and an appropriate fun, quirky yet understandable tone of voice.

    Photography

Photography was collected of models and scenery to collage with the photographs supplied from my client of his parents faces.

    Collage and Photo Manipulation

The images above show the development of the creation of Phil and Vals younger-self using collage and digital manipulation.

The bodies were then placed in context on a Marbella beach to feature as the cover for the invitations.

    4/4

    Front

The front of the invitation showcases Philip and Val in their younger, fun and wacky forms, happily inviting the reader to their party. All of the initial information is showcased on the front, i.e. RSVP, date, time and location.

The aesthetic and typography chosen is keeping in line with the retro and vintage theme chosen.

    Back

The back of the invitation showcases the further details of the party, whilst continuing on with the collaged, retro beach party theme using the Marbella bridge and cocktails as the central features.
