What does Delta Chi teach you?

• #10 “I will sustain my commitment to and involvement with our fraternity throughout my lifetime.”

• When does it start?

• When does it end?

NEW Basic Expectation

Page 15: Involvement

- Peter S. Johnson

“The Fraternity man never graduates. He receives his diploma and leaves his Alma Mater for the larger affairs of the world, but as long as his chapter stands, he is as much a part and parcel of it as in his undergraduate days. His success is theirs, and their success is his. He belongs to the family for life.”

The five C’s of Involvement

• Communication• During Recruitment, during AM Process, during Chapter Mtg.

• Clear Expectations• Ensure that everyone understands what is expected of them.

• Commitment• Once expectations are agreed upon, make a pact.

• Collaboration• Individual efforts = team efforts. Inspire a shared vision.

• Consequences• Use rewards and recognitions where possible, but hold one

another accountable. (Basic Expectation #10)

• “Students should get involved in organizations that match their interests and values. Remember that as you require/ask members to become involved in clubs, if they don't show up for meetings then they may make the organization look even worse.”

Tom CarrollAssistant Director of Student Organizations and LeadershipSacramento State University

• “Undoubtedly, students who are involved in meaningful activities do better than students who are not. At a minimum, I recommend that all students join a group that support their major. If one does not exist, then I suggest they find a club that supports networking and will allow them to become involved in the community they wish to work in, such as a service based club (Rotaract, Circle K, Alpha Phi Omega).  If they are smart they should join the secondary honor societies in their discipline or college. I think this is more important than just joining a social or personal issue based club. This is based around their academic pursuits and should complement their studies.”

Recruitment and Involvement

• How do you recruit “involved” men?

• How do you recruit men who want to be involved?

• Where do you find these guys?

Page 27: Involvement

Do One Thing! If it is important to you’ll find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse!
