    What is v.Clone?

    Iomega v.Clone enables you to create a clone o your PC onto an Iomega hard drive, use the clone onanother PC* as i you were working on your primary system, then sync any changes to your key documentolders back to your primary PC.

    This unique solution lets you take your operating system, les, settings, and applications wherever youtake your Iomega hard drive. Plug your Iomega hard drive into an available PC and enjoy using all yourapplications, including oce sotware, email programs, and browser avorites. Easily access, edit, andsave les to your Iomega hard drive. No data is let behind on the secondary computer, so your les are

    kept secure. Then, sync all your data back when you return to your primary computer. Take your Iomegahard drive with you when you travel without the hassle o packing an entire laptop.     How Does v.Clone Work?

    Iomega v.Clone creates a virtual image, or clone, o your computers primaryhard drive on an Iomega hard drive. This clone includes the operating system,all applications (oce suite applications, mail client, multimedia applications,etc.), text les, images, videos, and personal settings (browser avorites,wallpaper, etc). When you plug the Iomega hard drive into a secondary computer(or example, a netbook or another PC), you can run the clone as an applicationthat lets you work just as i you were on your primary PC. Any revisions are savedto the clone on your Iomega hard drive, not on the secondary PC. When youre-attach the Iomega hard drive to your primary PC, les in the key documents

    Allow approximately 2 minutes per gigabyte o data or initial image capture.

    What is a Clone?

    A clone is a virtual imagethat contains all o your les,applications, and operatingsystem on your primary harddrive. In essence, a clone isa copy o your primary harddrive.

    What Files and Folders will be Synchronized Automatically?

    Ater initial clone creation, v.Clone will automatically keep the ollowingolders synchronized between the clone and your primary computer:

    v.Clone Requirements

    to enter the serial number o your Iomega hard drive. Theprimarycomputerandanysecondarycomputeryouusewith

    v.Clone must be running a supported version o Windows (32-biteditions o Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP).

    Youmusthave1GBRAMorhigheronanycomputeryouintendtorun

    v.Clone.

    use v.Clone (generally not available in an Internet ca or publiccomputer).

    Iomegav.CloneusesaspecicversionoftheVMwarePlayersoftware.

    For best results, use only the VMware Player that is installed withv.Clone. Your v.Clone disk image is not guaranteed to work with otherversions o VMware Player.

    IMPORTANT! v.Clone is not guaranteed to oer the same level o perormance as your primary computer. v.Cloneis not guaranteed to work with all your sotware. Some sotware packages may require you to reenter your serialnumber. Running v.Clone or a virtual image/clone o an operating system or application may be governed bylicense agreements between yoursel and the licensor o any such operating system or application. You areresponsible or review and compliance with any such licenses and commitments to third parties.

    Installing

    Your drive comes with one o three installation options:

    1. The v.Clone installer is preloaded on some Iomega hard drives. Simply open your drive in WindowsExplorer and run the install program.

    2. I your Iomega hard drive included a Solutions CD, check to see i v.Clone is included on the CD.

    3. Download the latest version o v.Clone rom http://www.iomega.com/vclone . You may need to enter theserial number o your Iomega hard drive.

    Launch the v.Clone installer and ollow the on-screen instructions.

    Is v.Clone Backup Sotware?

    No. Although v.Clone providesmany backup-like eatures, itis not meant to replace yourbackup sotware. v.Clone willcopy the entire contents o your

    primary hard drive only whena clone is created or duringa scheduled clone creation.v.Clone will only sync lescontained in the key documentsolders. See What Files andFolders will be SynchronizedAutomatically? or moreinormation.

    Is v.Clone Disaster Recovery?No. Disaster recovery impliesimmediate access to your lesin case o an emergency. Toaccess your v.Clone image, youmust have a computer that runsWindows. v.Clones advantageis the ability to launch yourcloned computer rom anyWindows PC with v.Cloneinstalled.

    4 First Run

    The rst time you run v.Clone, create a clone o your primary hard drive.

    To create a clone:

    1. Launch the v.Clone sotware and click the Create Clone button. v.Clone creates a clone o your computersprimary hard drive on your Iomega hard drive. I you have more than one Iomega hard drive, select thedesired drive rom thev.Clone Drive drop-down list.

    NOTE: You can create a clone o several dierent machines on a single Iomega hard drive (depending onthe available space o your Iomega hard drive and the size o your computers hard drive). Creating a clonetakes several hours depending on the size o your computers hard drive.

    2. When the clone creation process is complete, v.Clone will prompt you to launch your clone. In order or yourclone to work properly on another machine, you must allow v.Clone to launch and install the VMware toolssotware. Wait or the clone to automatically reboot to complete the installation. Once your clone has beenrebooted, you can take your Iomega hard drive with you and run your PC virtually anywhere you go*.

    Launching

    Once you have created your clone, you can take your Iomega hard drive with you and use your clone as i you wereworking on your computerrunning your programs and accessing all your les. To use your clone as a virtualcomputer, you must launch a clone. To launch your clone:

    1. Install the v.Clone sotware on the secondary computerAdministrator access is required. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. v.Clone may require you to restart the computer once theinstallation is complete.

    2. Launch the v.Clone sotware.

    3. I you have more than one Iomega hard drive connected to your computer, select the desired drive rom thev.Clone Drive drop-down list.

    4. From the (Home) tab, click Launch to launch the latest clone. I you have more than one clone o the

    selected computer, go to the (List o Clones) tab, select the desired clone and click Launch.

    5. I you have created clones o more than one machine, select the computer you wish to launch rom theClones odrop-down list.

    6. Click the Launch button.

    7. The clone will launch in a new window where you can run applications and work with les.

    Exploring

    Exploring allows you to view the les and olders o a given clone. You can copy and paste les to and rom theclone you are exploring and your computer.

    NOTE: The Explore option is not supported on Windows Vista and Windows 7 i the User Access Control (UAC) isenabled.

    To explore your clone:

    1. Install the v.Clone sotware on the host computerAdministrator access is required. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. v.Clone may require you to restart the computer once the

    installation is complete.

    2. Launch the v.Clone sotware.

    3. Click the (List o Clones) tab.

    4. I you have more than one Iomega hard drive connected to your computer, select the desired drive rom thev.Clone Drive drop-down list.

    5. I you have created clones o more than one machine, select the computer you wish to launch rom the

    Clones odrop-down list.

    6. Click the Explore button.

    7. I your primary computers hard drive contained more than one partition (drive letter), you will need toselect the partition you wish to access.

    8. A Windows Explorer window will open, displaying the contents o your clone. You can browse your diskimage and copy les to and rom the clone to your current work environment.

    NOTE: When you are done exploring, click the Stop Explore button to close your clone.

    6 Schedule & Data File Synchronization

    By deault, v.Clone will automatically synchronize les between your computer and the clone. You can congurev.Clone to automatically create a new clone based on a schedule you congure.

    NOTE: v.Clone will only sync les contained in the key documents olders. See What Files and Folders Will BeSynchronized Automatically? or more inormation.

    Scheduled Clone Creation

    When scheduling is enabled, v.Clone will automatically create a new clone o your primary hard drive at thescheduled time. Scheduled Clone Creation creates a complete new clone o your entire hard drive.

    NOTE: When running on a laptop on battery power, the scheduled clone creation will not be started, sincethis process may take take several hours. The schedule clone creation requires that your Iomega Hard Drive isconnected to the computer and the computer is powered on at the schedule start time.

    To enable the creation o clones at a scheduled time:

    1. Launch the v.Clone sotware.

    2. Click the (Settings) tab.

    3. Expand the Schedule & Data File Synchronization section by clicking the arrow at the right side o theheading.

    4. Click the switch to turn the schedule ON. The schedule must be switched on to dene a schedule.

    5. I you have not previously set a schedule, a Schedule pop-up displays. Choose the days and time that youwant to automatically create a clone o your computer and click Apply.

    The new schedule setting displays in the schedule eld. New clones will be created automatically at thescheduled time.

    Manual Clone Creation

    To manually create a clone, launch the v.Clone sotware, then click the Create Clone button. v.Clone will createa clone o your computers primary hard drive on your Iomega hard drive. I you have more than one Iomega

    hard drive connected to your computer, select the desired drive rom thev.Clone Drive drop-down list.

    Troubleshooting

    VMware Player compatibility

    Iomega v.Clone uses a specic version o the VMware Player sotware. For best results use only the VMwarePlayer that is installed with v.Clone. Your v.Clone disk image is not guaranteed to work with other versions oVMware Player.

    8 How Do I Resolve File Conficts During Synchronization?

    v.Clone will automatically sync les to the clone that have been changed in the My Documents older (WindowsXP) or Documents older (Windows Vista and Windows 7) on the primary computer. I you have made changesto les in one o the key documents olders on the clone, the Files Changed screen will pop-up once v.Clone hasstarted the sync process. In order to sync changed or new les rom the clone to the primary computer, you needto choose an action to perorm on each le or discard all changes. The available actions are:

    Copya new le to the primary computer

    Replace a le already on the computer with the version on the clone

    Rename the le on the clone and then copy it to the computer

    Discard the le on the clone.

    Once these le conficts have been resolved, v.Clone will complete the sync process.
