Naming Binary Ionic Compounds
1. Always name metal (+ ion) first
2. Write stemstem nonmetal (- ion)
3. Add ending “ide” to nonmetal
• Hydrogen = hydr• Nitrogen = nitr• Oxygen = ox• Fluorine = fluor• Chlorine = chlor• Bromide = brom• Iodide = iod• Phosphorus = phosph• Sulfur = sulf• Tellurium = tellur• Sellenium = selen• Arsenic = arsen
