IOTA Group AF-111P Activation There are two islands next to each other; Baiyah and Flat islands,
located in the Tarsue Chiefdom, Sanqine Statutory District, Sinoe
County, Liberia. These Islands can be seen from beach locations in
Bame Town and Kranbi (at the border of Sinoe and Rivercess
Counties). There is also another Flat island within AF-111 group about
65 km further south than Baiyah. I discovered that Flat Island
mentioned above through my recce trip, and I was told that the IOTA
HQ will be informed of this on our return once we get exact
coordinates and take more pictures.

New Island Discovered
Brief History of Baiyah Island
For many months, Col MM0NDX and I have been working
tirelessly with me in finding out information about the little
known Baiyah and Flat islands of Liberia, IOTA group AF-111P.

Back Ground of Baiyah Island Key Elements of Baiyah Island:
It is a cultural sacrificial location for people in Tarsue Chiefdom.
It is known as the place of traditional worship (as a result, no one
normally goes there without proper arrangement and approval.)
There are more deep and hidden history about the Baiyah island.

Findings
On New Year’s Day of 2017, I went on a reconnaissance trip to get
close and personal experience with the islands and found the
following;
It’s a good location and accessible for radio activities
It’s weather dependent
Travelling not possible during rainy season
I was very fortunate to meet and talk with elders and community
leaders who’ve accepted our project and are willing to work with us in
order to activate AF-111.
A 2nd recce trip will be taken place after August to determine best
landing stage, operating site(s) and to reacquaint with local villagers

Press Release #1 5L3BI — IOTA DXPEDITION TO BAIYAH ISLAND, AF-111P –
LIBERIA
I. In collaboration with the Liberian Radio Amateur Association, a
team consisting of Richmond EL2BG, Dickson EL2DT, Jeremy
EI5GM, Dave EI9FBB and Col MM0NDX was delighted to
announce a much anticipated IOTA DXpedition to Baiyah Island
AF-111P. This IOTA has never before been activated.
II. Planning and organizing this expedition has taken well over a
year and is still ongoing. One reconnaissance trip has already
taken place to ascertain where the island actually is, and to meet
with local elders & community leaders who control Baiyah
Island.
.
Comments and Recommendation Our website is now up and running, and a second survey trip is
upcoming once we’ve gathered finances.
We need to pinpoint the best landing stage on the island and to
reacquaint with local villagers and elders. This entire operation is
only possible with their blessing!
Time on the island will be limited and definitely weather
dependent. We are under no illusion that this activity could not be
tricky; so one has to look at the Media Gallery on our website to
see the island which is not very inviting.
Nonetheless, we carefully chose early November (dry season in
Liberia) to attempt an activation of AF-111. Tentatively, dates of
activity will be around November 1-4, 2017. This may change
slightly but we will update in due course regarding that
We have requested the special call sign 5L3BI and are hopeful the
Liberian Telecoms Authority will approve and issue this to us soon.
Even at this early stage, demand to work AF-111 will be huge and
we kindly ask you work with us only once to give all IOTA chasers
a fair chance of getting in the log.
Costs are ever growing and we do seek support and sponsorship to
help offset some of the high expenses. Visit our website to support
this project. https://af111new.com/
