You could work with Trademarks. Anything that is a brand is a trademark. For instance Look at the ‘TM’ next to One Step Up’s logo. Since it got registered, no one can use our logo. Guess who helped us with the registration process? An IP lawyer!

As an area of work IP is closely connected to products and businesses. Patents are what you may work on. A patent can be put on anything that is inventive. This is where science subjects come handy. Imagine getting a patent for a scientist who has invented a car that can fly! Essentially you are protecting his invention so no other person copies his idea and sells it.

We met Shwetasree Majumder - a lawyer who deals in Intellectual Property. She tells us that IP helps her stay on top of different subjects and fields. Work could include anything from a life saving invention to the creations of a fashion house.

Shwetasreee’s work also involves visiting sites like Vimeo and Pinterest to stay connected with what is happening, world over.

Copyright is another area of IP. It gives an artist/ creator the sole rights to their creation. On our website all of the videos belong to One Step Up. If we get them copyrighted, no one can lift our videos and make any amount of money through them. In case that happens (copyright infringement), we’ll just have to sue the guilty!

Our music industry too has seen cases of copyright infringement. Why don’t you try guessing the names of music director’s who lift music from foreign artists?
