Member Testimonials

Margaret Crawford Auditor-General of NSW

IPAA has been a constant in my career and has travelled with me to different states and all three levels of government.

I have to admit that as a young, single public servant, I joined IPAA for the social networking opportunities! I also took advantage of the training and development opportunities to build capability and my understanding of public sector management.

I was honoured to take part in a “YIPPA” mentoring program when I worked in Victoria. I still keep in touch with my two mentees.

I also particularly like the Young Professionals breakfast—a great opportunity to speak directly to young officers from my organisation and to be inspired by the achievements of young professionals.

Murat DizdarExecutive Director, Public Schools NSW

The professional learning and growth opportunities on offer through IPAA are of the highest order.

The professional networks that I have formed through IPAA have also been highly beneficial and continue to provide a stronger whole-of-government understanding applicable to daily operational work.

Jan McClelland, AMDeputy Chancellor University of New England, Armidale

Through IPAA NSW I’ve had exposure to different contemporary practices, often international but also state and federal. It helped me to shape my thinking and gain exposure to issues, trends and innovations and to stretch my thinking.

The IPAA NSW community is a safe space to share and learn from one another, not just about best practice but also about the ideas and issues that haven’t worked so well.

Josh MichaelA/Project Officer (Assets), Asset Management Services, OPOD NSW Department of Justice

I initially joined as I applied for the Young Professionals Network (YPN) Committee when an EOI went out after the CEO and Young Professionals Breakfast. A condition of being on the YPN Committee was to be a professional member, so I signed up!

For me, the main benefit of IPAA membership is going to events attended by a broad spectrum of government and private workers from various management levels. IPAA has certainly given me direct access to my department’s executives on multiple occasions.

I really enjoy the On the Couch sessions with stewards of the public sector. It is always insightful to hear candidly about their experiences working in the sector.

International Women’s Day CelebrationThis is an evening of networking, conversation and inspirational speakers to celebrate International Women’s Day. Speakers come from all walks of life and share their stories of challenges and successes. It is an informal evening and an opportunity to share ideas in a convivial atmosphere.

Women’s Executive LuncheonThe Women’s Executive Luncheon celebrates women in leadership and explores what needs to happen to ensure more women continue to strive for executive careers in the public sector.

Speakers for the 2016 Luncheon on 16 August are The Hon. Catherine Cusack MLC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Ms Marina Go, General Manager of Hearst-Bauer Media.

On the CouchOn the Couch is a series of informal interviews with key “stewards” of the public sector. IPAA NSW has identified these people as “stewards” because in their current roles they are seen as having a high degree of responsibility and influence over the future of the public sector and the people who work within it. These interviews look at the person behind the role and focus on their influences, leadership styles, and values. Renowned journalist Monica Attard interviews them informally about their priorities in their current role and insights for the future.

Past interviewees include:

• Simon A Y Smith, Secretary Department of Industry, Skills and Regional Development

• Dr Mary Foley AM, Secretary NSW Health

• Dr Kerry Scott AO, Chair of the Moorebank Intermodal Company Ltd, a Director of NBN Co, Infrastructure Australia and the Whitlam Institute

DEX A Customised Agency Program (CAP) is a

professional development program uniquely designed in content and format to address the particular needs of your organisation. Customised Agency Programs can save your organisation money and enhance team-building.

All IPAA NSW courses are available as Customised Agency Programs, including the courses in the Public Training Program.

IPAA NSW matches the most appropriate consultant to the needs of your organisation and offers flexibility in content, length and timetabling.

You are not restricted to our current offerings. We can develop a new course specifically for your organisation, offering complete professional development program solutions. Case studies and organisational policies and procedures from your organisation can be incorporated into these programs. A number of IPAA NSW courses can be combined to develop a course appropriate to your requirements.

Training can be delivered at your premises or we can source a training venue for you. Courses can be delivered anywhere in NSW, and sometimes interstate, to public sector organisations at all levels of government, as well as organisations in the private and not-for-profit sectors.

In-house course delivery is a cost-effective way to deliver training to groups of eight or more people (maximum 20). Discounts are available for multiple bookings for the same course.

This flexible and cost-effective option benefits all agencies, particularly those with offices in regional NSW.

For further information or to receive a written proposal, contact our Professional Development Coordinator on 02 9228 5225 or email [email protected].
