Parent Tips - May 2017
“Securing a Strong End of the Year”
by Raquel Werk, Resource Teacher
Many times as the end of the year progresses,
students get tired, teachers are worn out, and things get busier than
ever. One way we, as parents, can secure a strong finish to the race
of this particular school year is by setting goals. Make a list of as-
signments that will need to be accomplished for the rest of the quar-
ter. Call or email teachers to verify the assignments. Many teachers
are on email several times a day. The third thing you can do to help
you set goals is to check in every day to see how much your child ac-
complished. Have them take a picture of the completed assignment
to prove themselves. Put the list in a visible location for you both to
see. Praise your child’s daily accomplishments with their favorite
snack, less chores, or leisure time.
Another way we can secure a strong finish to the year’s end is to
promise a reward if your child reaches their goals. This will be a
good motivator and also help build endurance. Once the child gets
to the end, they can be proud and confident that they have accom-
plished great things. Doing this might even set the stage for more
goal setting, more accomplishments, and greater confidence.
