he best way to contact us is e-mail: [email protected]; Level: Regular level: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Prerequisites: Successful completion of Biology AND Algebra 1 Credit: One Science Credit Text: McGraw Hill, Integrated Physics and Chemistry, 2015 Course Description: This course is an exploration of natural phenomena related to physics and chemistry. Critical-thinking and scientific problem solving skills are emphasized while exploring concepts related to the properties of matter, chemical reactions, forces, motion, simple machines, heat, electricity, waves, sound, and light. Laboratory Experience: A strong emphasis in IPC is placed upon laboratory experimentation. Forty percent of class time will be dedicated to laboratory investigations and their analysis. Laboratory experiences and science process skills will be relied upon to develop chemical principles throughout the course. NOTE: This course is excellent preparation for both chemistry and physics as one of the four science credits for students who are graduating on the Recommended Graduation Plan OR Foundation Plan with Endorsement. After completing IPC students on Recommended Graduation Plan must take both Chemistry AND Physics. This course may count as a fourth science on the on the Recommended Graduation Plan but does not count for either Distinguished or the LT Scholar Plan. This course cannot be taken after passing Chemistry or Physics. Grading Criteria 60% Major Grades, including at least 3 recorded grades in this category per nine-weeks. Major assessments consist of short answer, matching, problem-solving, completion, labeling, multiple choice, and essays. Major projects/papers and major laboratory assignments may also be included. Rubrics for major projects and major papers will be given in class and published on the teacher's web page. Campus retest policy: Retests are allowed in regular level courses, after attending required tutorials, within one week of being notified of a failing grade in class or on Gradespeed. The grade will be calculated by averaging the original test score with the retest score, for a maximum of 70. Tests are never released to students, parents, or tutors.

40% Daily Grades, including at least 10 recorded grades in this category per nine weeks. Daily grades may include textbook assignments, worksheets, vocabulary exercises, laboratory investigations, quizzes, class activities, notebook checks, article summaries, small projects, etc. All teachers of the same course title will have the same number of daily grades will be based upon completion/participation. Failing daily grades and failure to turn in daily work by due date: Students may have an opportunity to work out a plan with the teacher to resubmit failing or missing daily work, due the next time class meets, for a maximum grade of 50. (This opportunity is offered only once per grading period for Chemistry.) Missing work due to absence: Students have a period of time equal to the length of the absence to turn in makeup work for full credit, according to student handbook policy.
