Astronomers have for the first time observedthe direct effect of volcanic activity on theatmosphere of Jupiter's moon, Io.
To distinguish betweenthe different processes thatgive rise to Io's atmosphere,a team of astronomers used Atacama Large Mil-limeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observa-tory in Chile to make snapshots of the moon ,whenit passed in and out of Jupiter's shadow. Based onthe snapshots, they calculated that active volca-
noes directly produce 30-50 per centof Io's atmosphere.
Io is volcanically-active due to aprocess called tidal heating. 4 DAYS,AIR POLLUTIONWHAT: A day after Times
NIE raised the is-sue of rising menace of air pol-lution, the Centre informed theSupreme Court that it was draft-ing a comprehensive legislationto set up a statutory body em-powered to take steps to preventstubble burning in Punjab,Haryana and UP and implementmeasures to reduce air pollu-tion in the National Capital Ter-ritory (NCR) and adjoining ar-eas.
WHEN: "The comprehen-sive legislative
step will create a permanentbody with adequate powers. Inthe past, certain ad hoc stepswere taken. Now, a statutorybody will be created. We willcome out with a draft legislation
in four days," the Centre told theapex court.
HOW:With Parliament notin session, the Union
government is likely to take the
ordinance route to set upthe permanent body, which is expected to haverepresentations from Del-hi and three states — Punjab,Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The new law would make it legally- binding for stakeholderstates to adhere to the decisions of the anti-pollution body. Thebody will have state representatives on board, and this, it isbelieved, would help to ensure that the states implement meas-ures as suggested by the body Since the Centre is looking to amend the EnvironmentProtection Act, the Water Act and the Air Act, the new legisla-tion is expected to be in tune with the proposed amendments Stiffer penalties are expected to be imposed for violations. The highest fine is 1̀ lakh at the moment
THE PROPOSED LAW
T he Centre's proposal to come upwith a stringent law against pol-lution is a welcome move.
However, it's important to implementand monitor the law strictly. Moreover, there should be a concerted effort tocreate an awareness on the need to
curb air pollution. The driveagainst pollution should
start right fromschools, as studentscan be the biggest
changemakers in creating a pollution-
free planet

BECAWHAT: India and the US have finalised the land-
mark defence pact, Basic Exchange andCooperation Agreement (BECA) for Geo-Spatial Co-operation. The deal would help both the countries insharing high-end military technology, geospatial mapsand classified satellite data between their militaries.According to experts, the complete data, backed byhighly-accurate US satellites, helps in navigation aswell as targeting military assets.
WHY: Under BECA, the two countries can ex-change maps, nautical and aeronautical
charts, commercial and other unclassified imagery, geodetic, geophysical, geomagnetic and gravitydata. Apart from the standard data, the agreementincludes sharing of classified information as well, with safeguards in place to ensure that it is notshared with any other third party.
➤According to experts, information received under BECA will beuseful for long-range navigation and missile-targeting withenhanced accuracy ➤In fact, according to them, it's a win-windeal for India, as it would get access to military-grade data thatcan help draw up target coordinates. For example, military-gradecoordinates could help direct missiles of air-launched bombs to aterror location in the neighbourhood with high accuracy

READ. PLAY. LEARNWEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2020
While many people wouldrather forget 2020, this isa historic moment to livethrough, and one that youmay eventually want toremember, with the helpof little mementos. Here’show you can create aunique time capsule...
To begin, you’ll needAny sturdy container that will not deterio-rate over time like an archival box, plasticcontainer or even a large glass mason jar.
Choose what to preserveObvious ideas include a timeline of events, newspaper clippings, a letter you write to
your future self and lists of sightsand sounds you remember.
Ideally, skip theburial
Although some peoplebury time capsules,
you can skip thatstep, especially ifyou have decoratedit carefully andfilled it with pre-cious items. In-stead, store your
time capsule inthe back of acloset where
it will be protected from
water damage orfluctuations intemperature.

FOOD FOR THOUGHTGROOMING GYAN
If you think becoming a professionalchef is all about opening a restaurantand flaunting the chef ’s coat with per-fect plates, then you are highly mis-taken. It actually involves years of
learning and refining techniques, and aboveall the passion for cooking and love for food.Apart from all this, there are certain traitsthat add to the skill of being a professionalchef. For instance, a professional chef knowsthe art of making the best use of the waste. Also, they know the right time of adding tem-pering that enhances the aroma of the dish.A great chef is not just creative but high-ly intelligent too. He knows how to rescuea spoilt porridge, how to add flavour to a blandtasting vegetable, how to churn out an amaz-ing dish from minimum ingredients and howto plate an otherwise boring dish to make itlook appetising and delicious. So, what alldoes it take to become a super chef? Hereare some cues that you can take.
TASTING WHILE COOKINGWhen popular chef Sanjeev Kumar start-ed the trend of tasting on his cookery show‘Khana Khazana’ he was criticised, but laterit became a trend and a sign of skilled chefswho taste while cooking to ascertain if thedish has come out well.
ALWAYS SALT YOUR PASTAWATERA perfect plate of pasta is a result of wellcooked raw pasta and that starts with boilingsalted water, which majority of us miss andjust boil them saltless. KEEP A CLEAN WORKSPACEA messed-up cooking table is a sign of how badyou are at cooking and that’s the reason chefsacross the globe are found hygienic and sortedwith the perfectly dressed cooking table.
WHEN TO ADD TEMPERINGThis is one of the most common mistakes people commit while cooking. In a rush, peo-ple add tempering before the oil is properlyheated. It’s only the experts who know whenis the right time to add the tempering andthis makes all the difference.
BEST USE OF THE WASTEIt is the USP of a skilled professional thatthey can make the best use of the waste.TThhoossee lleeffttoovveerr cchhiicckkeenn bboonneess aanndd vveeggeettaabblleessccrraappss mmiigghhtt sseeeemm lliikkee aa wwaassttee ffoorr yyoouu,, bbuuttaa pprrooffeessssiioonnaall cchheeff uusseess tthheemm ttoo mmaakkeehhoommeemmaaddee ssttoocckk..
ROAST THE SPICESRoasting the spices before using them in thedish adds to the flavour of the final dish. Also, you can roast and keep them in an air-
tight container.This adds to the
crunchinessof spicesthat you
can useas topping too.

All of these are suchsweet memories thatwill stay with usforever! Also, thegrand annualday, sports day,and field trips
are unforgettable part of schooldays. Singing songs on bus rides, wearing casual outfits on birth-days, and participating in schoolactivities/competitions, it's allin the journey!
Playing sports in sunnydays and forgetting to write

School is a place where we learn,make new friends, ex-p e r i e n c e
new things andmost importantly
have fun whenthe teacher isn't
around. School isdefinitely a fun
place. My friendsare always therewith me to make myday better. My teach-ers are really amazing, they explainthe concepts to us in the most fun andinteractive way.
My school conducts several groupprojects which help me improve im-portant life skills such as communi-cation and leadership skills. Our schoolalso conducts MUNs, a place where I
can learn about theworld, meet new peo-ple, understand theirthoughts and also ex-press my views.
Our school takesus to picnics and edu-
cational trips, trips that allmy friends and I eagerly waitfor. We learn about differentpeople and places in a funmanner.
I definitely found schooltedious sometimes, but thecurrent lockdown due to thecoronavirus pandemic hasmade me realize how fun itwas to actually interact
with the teachers and my friends andlearn on campus.
But even during such hard times, our school tries to keep us busy by as-signing us projects and suggesting dif-ferent courses, modules. I really wantto get back to the regular schoolingwhere we actually go to school becauseI think school is really fun.

Vijayadashmi is cele-brated on the tenthday of the month ofAshwin according tothe Hindu lunisolar
calendar which corresponds to Sep-tember or October of the Gregori-an calendar.
The day also marks the victoryof Goddess Durga over the demonMahishasur.
The name Dussehra is also de-rived from Sanskrit terms 'Dasha'and 'Ahaha.' Ahaha means day. God-dess Durga fought with evils fornine nights and 10 days.
The name Vijayadashmi is alsoderived from the Sanskrit words'Vijaya-dashami,' which means vic-tory on the dashami (Dashmi be-
ing the tenth lunar day of the Hin-du calendar month). During the cel-ebration of Dussehra in the North-ern parts of India, huge effigies ofRavana, his giant brotherKumbhkarna and son Meghnathare burnt.
Although Dussehra is cele-brated in different ways across In-dia, the motive remains the same;'to spread good cheer and celebratethe victory of good over the evil.'
Niraj Public School celebratedDussehra virtually with great re-ligious fervour. The celebration be-gan with a speech by founder prin-
cipal B Jyothi Reddy and principalB Jivitesh Reddy wishing the stu-
dents and staff a safe and happyDussehra. The programme was
marked by various activities. The students from primary
wing were dressed as avatars ofGoddess Durga.

forts in explainingthe importance of
the nine avatarsof Goddess Dur-ga to the audi-ence. Studentsalso elucidated

mous festival in Telan-gana. The celebrations ended witha group dance on the tunes of 'Ai-giri Nandini' and bhajans on God-dess Durga.

n Smith is one of the best bats-men in the world but his per-formances in IPL 2020 havebeen below par for RajasthanRoyals. After two back-to-back fifties in the first twogames, Smith has been
struggling to attain con-sistency. He has so far
scored 276 runs in 12games at an average
of over 25 and astrike rate of129.57. Smithfailed to fireyet again onSunday in
RajasthanRoyals’ clashagainst MumbaiIndians where he
scored 11 off 8balls in the 196-run chase.
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir explains how captain Steve Smith droppinghimself out from the playing XI can help Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020
Fans deserve to know more aboutRohit’s fitness: Sunil Gavaskar
I think Steve Smith is themain issue for RajasthanRoyals, let’s be honest. I have
been saying it from Day 1. SteveSmith drops himself and RR canpick themselves Oshane Thomas orany other overseas seamer in hisplace, alongside Jofra Archer. Hisperformance will go up. Whoever isthe captain can use Archer in abetter way.
I remember the game against DelhiCapitals - they were 10/2. And theyhad only used 2 overs from JofraArcher. If they had one more over-seas pacer, they could have bowled3 overs from Archer in the first six- and try to actually seal the game.Just because you know there is notenough depth and quality apartfrom Jofra Archer, soyou have to only use 2overs from Archer.Gautam Gambhir
n Jofra Archer has been one of thebest bowlers in Indian Premier League2020 so far. He has been instrumentalwith the new ball for Rajasthan Royals(RR) and has also bowled well in thedeath overs. Archer, who has 17 wicketsin 12 matches this season, has moreoften than not got RR off to a goodstart with the ball. However, his effortshave not been capitalised well byRajasthan Royals, who cannot affordanother overseas pacer in their line-up.
n With captain Steve Smith, all-round-er Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler certainstarters in every game, Archer is left toshoulder the pace responsibilityalone. While Ankit Rajpoot andVarun Aaron have been disap-pointing, young Kartik Tyagistill needs to work on execu-tion. Rajasthan Royals arecurrently placed sixth on theIPL 2020 points table.
