Southlake Children’s Safety Fair On Saturday May 18th we again attended the City of South-lake's annual Children's Safety fair. The event was held at the Southlake Town Center between 10 am and 1pm. This year we had Marc Edwards from Sea Clear show up and help out with the set up, handouts, and clean up after the event was done. Thanks Marc. It was the first day of high temperatures so our friends at the Southlake building permits invited us to move under their dinning canopy, Thank you Paul Ward and company. That canopy made a big difference. The visitors to the safety fair started out small but built up strongly over the last two hours and we handed out 150 Wa-ter Watcher Tags and just as many coloring books to the kids. Parents are appreciative to receive the common sense re-minder booklets provided by I.P.S.S.A that gives helpful tips on how to have a water safe summer in the backyard, or community pool. As long as they will have us we will keep coming back. Thanks, Dave Boyd Tarrant County President
Flower Mound Children Safety Fair
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound held it’s first safety fair on June 15, 2013. IPSSA Texas was invited to inform attendees about water safety and pass out “Water Watcher” tags. Jeremy Smith, our IPSSA Texas safety chair and president of the Mid Cities chapter, was joined by Keith May and Mike Bomalick also of Mid Cities chapter and Gordon and Ingrid Slagle of the Fort Worth chapter. Police, Fire, Care Flight and other health related services were represented and the weather co-operated wonderfully. Everyone was pleased and we were invited back for next year. These little missions can be so important if we can just avert one tragedy. On a sad
note, the day before
the safety fair a four
year old boy drowned
in a family pool, in
Flower Mound.

At our last meeting we discussed a unique situation with one of
our members, Kevin Donovan. Kevin has been asked to be on
a committee that is designing future plans for the City of Arling-
ton's Parks and Recreation department. His term is for one
year and his committee meets once a month. Among other
things they will be proposing land acquisition to meet the future
community needs for "green" space, a new aquatic park, and
refurbishment of the current community center which has in-
door swim facilities. The problem is the committee scheduled their monthly meeting
on the same day and time our chapter has its member meeting. Our chapter dis-
cussed several options and the one that made most sense, and unanimously ap-
proved by the membership, was to move our scheduled meeting date from the sec-
ond Tuesday of each month to the First Tuesday, same time, same restaurant. An-
other benefit to moving the date will allow those vendors, distributors and product
reps who also attend A.P.S.P's region three meeting on the second Tuesday to now
come to our chapter meeting without conflicting schedules.
Thanks,
Dave Boyd

Tarrant County Chapter Meeting Date Change Fourth of July I have often wondered why we all say
“Happy 4th”, when every other holiday is
named by it’s name. We don’t say “Happy
1st January” or “Have a merry December
25th”, why is it not “Happy Independence
Day”???
What is Independence Day? For most of us I
guess it means getting together with family,
a parade and some barbeque and to watch
the fireworks. Wouldn’t it be different if we
actually read the Declaration of Independ-
ence out load for our children during our
celebration so we could remember why we
celebrate this special day?? Like I said, just
a thought, since I’m not originally from here I
do especially appreciate this day

The Texas Bluebonnet Chapter NSDAR would like to express our ap-preciation for the $1,000 donation made by the Fort Worth IPSSA Chapter toward our veterans’ projects. Great Memorial Celebration!!
We, as the Fort Worth chapter, presented a check of $1000 for the Daughters of the American Revolution veterans'’ project!! I was proud to have some of the Vietnam Vets pull the winning ticket for the grill giveaway. The winner was a Mrs. Tarral of Hurst. Gordon Slagle delivered the grill the next day. I am so pleased with the funds raised for the wounded soldiers!! The DAR chapter will put the funds toward care packages for the soldiers who need them. I am hopeful we can continue this alliance in the future and help the well deserving soldiers in any way to let them know we appreciate their sacrifice. It’s events like this that make me proud to be a mem-ber of IPSSA. When we pool our efforts together we can accom-plish so much. Thank you again to our chapter members, the DAR chapter and for all of those fighting to make this a great country.

Timeless Business Advice (Part 2)
In the last article we talked about building trust and how it relates when dealing with customers. These tenets are basic but sometimes we need to get back to basics in order to improve our business. This month we’ll continue with the second piece of advice which is delivery.
Delivery
Early in my career as a pool guy I was amazed at what customers would tell me when I showed up to
give them an estimate. It would always begin something like this, “I’m so glad you showed up, the last
guy I called never came to give me an estimate.” It immediately reminded me of a quote by Woody Al-
len: Showing up is half the battle.
By delivering on a consistent basis you can in turn charge more for your services. Customers will see that the extra costs come with
reduced headaches and less time wasted by waiting for someone to show up. Delivering great service costs more and customers that
are willing to pay for it are the customers you want to have.
By showing up on time you relay several things to your customers. First, you value both your time and theirs. Second, you deliver
what you say you are going to deliver. Third, it shows you’re a professional and thus you charge profes-
sional rates.
Now as a business broker I strive to meet my client’s needs by delivering the best service I can consis-
tently. So no matter what industry you’re in, every customer loves a company that can deliver the goods.
Next month we’ll discuss the importance of expanding your knowledge.

Watch Your Step! Almost stepped on this

Another Summer in Texas Well it looks like we are in for another exciting summer in Texas. One day its hot, another it cool, and then it’s raining. If you are one
of those that thinks the weather doesn’t affect your pools, just stop and take a look at how green the grass is after a rain. Or better yet
get a water sample from the rain and break out all your test kits. One thing that I will share with you that will help keep your pools look-
ing good through the weather, keep your filters clean.
You can balance the water in a pool one minute, leave, than it rains and wipes out your pH adds nitrates and phosphates to the water,
and a lot more but if you have been keeping the filters clean, your pool should be good to go next week when you come back.
