What Is IR?

Infrared (IR) light is electromagnetic radiation with awavelength longer than that of visible light, measured from thenominal edge of visible red light at 0.74 micrometers (m), and

extending conventionally to 300 m. These wavelengthscorrespond to a frequency range of approximately 1 to 400 THz,and include most of the thermal radiation emitted by objectsnear room temperature. Microscopically, IR light is typicallyemitted or absorbed by molecules when they change theirrotational-vibrational movements.

An Intruder Detection System(IDS) is a device or software

application that monitors networkand/or system activities for maliciousactivities or policy violations and

produces reports to a ManagementStation or Operator.

Why IRbased IDS?

All objects emit infrared energy.

Infrared Radiation heat transfer occurs when two objects atdifferent temperatures are in sight of each other. IR is

transported by electromagnetic waves that travel at the speedof light.

IRdoes not require contact to transfer the heat.

Working of the IRbased IDS

AIRtransmitter & receiver are used asa part of IDS. The IR beam is thrown

by the transmitter that is collected bythe PIR sensor via Fresnel Lens. Thebeam of IR is formed between the

transmitter & receiver. If the beam isbroken the Alarm is triggered.
