When I first joined AECOM in my home town of Melbourne, Australia, I was a planner on a major port expansion and redevelopment project. I really didn’t envisage that 20 years later I would be living in London and leading AECOM’s Europe, Middle East, India and Africa business. The fact I am shows the opportunities available to you when you join AECOM.

After years of study, you are probably feeling excited and perhaps a little apprehensive about what the next few years may hold. I certainly felt that way; I hope your next step will be to choose AECOM. With 800 graduates in the UK and Ireland, we are proud to be considered among the UK’s top employers, rising to #54 in the Guardian UK 300 Graduate Employers List.

We invest heavily in the quality of our graduate programme because we know graduates are critical to our success and will become our future leaders. The fresh perspectives and ideas they bring to our diverse and evolving business are invaluable. We focus on providing our graduates with opportunities to learn new skills, to work with talented and experienced colleagues and to make a positive impact on communities near and far.

Every day, I’m amazed to learn of the challenges we solve for our clients, and the lives we’re shaping and influencing through our work. It’s these challenges that have seen me build my career here, and which make AECOM an exciting and rewarding place to start your career.

AMAZING IS HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL AS PART OF MY JOB.CLAREGRADUATE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST, DUBLIN

Clare Crossan is a Graduate Environmental Scientist in our Dublin Environment team. She graduated with a BSc in Geology at the University of St Andrews, Scotland.

“At AECOM, I have had the opportunity to work on complex projects and have had a hands-on learning experience. An amazing benefit of AECOM is having the ability to travel across Ireland and the UK to visit various sites with the possibility to travel further afield in the future. As an AECOM graduate with the Environmental Liability Team I have had positive mentoring and multiple opportunities to progress my own technical learning.”

Protection is keyWith one of the largest environmental teams in the UK and Ireland we understand the complex interactions between a range of environmental issues facing communities, organisations and entire countries, delivering air quality, ecology and remediation through to geospatial and data, carbon capture and environmental permitting projects, to name but a few.

We have provided our environmental expertise on a range of projects from residential schemes such as Clancy Quay in Dublin to Facebook’s newly opened data centre in Clonee, County Meath, which is one of the most energy efficient and modern data centres in the world, packed full of cutting-edge technology and powered by 100% renewable wind energy.

WATER ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING

AMAZING IS INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF CIVIL ENGINEERS.NAIMHGRADUATE CIVIL ENGINEER, BELFAST

Naimh McElroy is a Graduate Civil Engineer in our Belfast Water team. She graduated in Civil Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast.

“Through AECOM’s corporate responsibility programme you can volunteer at a charity or not-for-profit organisation using some of your paid working days each year. I recently visited my local primary school through the Institute of Civil Engineers Bridge to School Programme where I helped young students build a cable-stayed bridge that they could walk on, giving them insight into one of the many exciting and rewarding things civil engineers do each day. It was a great opportunity to tell them about my profession and how I got to where I am now; and to inspire them to become the next generation of civil engineers.”

Thinking differently about water For us, water is key to creating healthier communities and more beautiful places. We are making both of these a reality; whether delivering flood risk projects that enhance the natural environment, to developing energy-efficient treatment processes and smart water networks. Managing the water cycle across whole catchments, our scope includes water and wastewater treatment, water infrastructure and flood and coastal erosion risk management.

Our projects in Ireland include the restoration of the Camlough Reservoir to provide an enhanced recreational and tourism resource for the future; and the South Campshires flood protection scheme which is protecting 3,000 homes from flooding, while enabling the local community to continue to enjoy use of the riverside location.

AMAZING IS ALL THE NEW FRIENDS I HAVE MADE SINCE I JOINED AECOM.JOHNGRADUATE QUANTITY SURVEYOR, DUBLIN

John Greene is a Graduate Quantity Surveyor in our Dublin Cost Management team. He studied Quantity Surveying at Waterford Institute of Technology.

“When I joined AECOM I didn’t know anyone else in the company but that quickly changed after I signed up to join the social club in our office. It’s great, organising anything from BBQs to cooking classes, which everyone across the office can get involved in. We also have a monthly pizza and beer night, which most of us in our office attend. Regular social events like these help bring people together from across the business. They’re always great fun and such a good way to get to know other graduates as well as people from other AECOM teams in relaxed settings.”

Adding value AECOM’s programme, cost and consultancy experts serve private and public sector clients all over the world. They focus on reducing risk from projects, improving value and assuring outcomes. Practice areas range from building surveying, cost management and financial and economic consulting through to design management, health and safety consulting and fiscal incentives.

Some of our recent projects include cost managing the Central Bank of Ireland’s headquarters at North Wall Quay in Dublin that brought together teams spread at different locations across the city; and cost and project managing LinkedIn’s state-of-the-art Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters, also in Dublin.
