The Irish are famous
for their wool
sweaters. they
were originally
knitted by hand and
the stitching patterns
identified the clan.
today most are made
by machine but they
are still considered
to be a source of
pride in irish heritage.
these sweaters contain
about 100,000 stitches
and took up to sixty
days to complete.

Irish Step DancingIn Ireland’s past, dance teachers would travel around the country teaching the locals the art of dancing. They were seen as important figures as they helped the spread of Irish culture throughout the island.
Today, the popularity of Irish Dance has spread throughout the world due to the fame of Riverdance in the 1990s.
a Celtic knot is not
necessarily a knot
but a pattern which
has no clear start or
finish. it is a
common symbol in
the irish culture.
it is believed that celtic
knots were first used
by monks to embellish
thier manuscripts.
today Celtic knots are
often used to decorate
irish step dancing
costumes as well
as jewelry and even
grave markers.

The hands signify friendship, the crown loyalty, and the heart love. These rings are kept as heirlooms and passed from mother to daughter.
Worn on the right hand with the heart facing out, the Claddagh ring says that the wearer’s heart is not yet won. Worn on the right hand with the heart facing in, it tells the world that the wearer is under love's spell and the two lovers have become engaged. Worn on the left hand with the heart facing in, it shows the world that the wearer's love has been sealed by marriage.

St. Patrick’s DaySt. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17th. Originally, it was a religious holiday to honor St. Patrick who is credited for spreading Christianity through Ireland.
Today, St. Patrick’s Day has become a celebration of all things Irish and has spread to other countries including the United States.
In Dublin Ireland the celebration lasts four days with a parade, performances and other activities.
St. Patrick was born in
Britain to wealthy
parents. as a teenager,
he was kidnaped by
by irish raiders.
he escaped after six
years and went
back home and became
a priest.
st. patrick decided to
return to ireland
as a missionary to
help the christians
that lived there and
began converting
others to Christianity.
St. Patrick earned the
respect of the IRISH
by mixing their
traditions into the
Christian celebrations.
