Location

• Palmerstown is located about 10 kilometres from the centre of Dublin.

• It is a historic town.

• Our school is named after Iosolde, from the famous story of Tristan and Iosolde. It is said that Tristan and Iosolde passed through Palmerstown on their travels.

Education• There are almost 500 students in our

school.• Students study for a total of six years.• During these six years students take two

state exams,• The Junior Certificate at the end of 3rd

year• And the Leaving Certificate at the end

of 6th year.

Exams

For the Junior Cert students take examinations in about 11-12 subjects. They can take all exams at higher or ordinary level and some at foundation level.

For the Leaving Cert students normally take 7 subjects at higher or ordinary level.

Points are awarded based on the results in this exam.These points are used to determine which college

courses the students may take up.The best 6 grades are counted for points and the total

possible is 600 points, 100 per subject.

Transition Year

Our 4th year in school is optional and is known as Transition year.

Transition Year is designed to promote the personal, social, educational and vocational

development of the students and to prepare them for life after school

Transition Year

Students take part in a range of modules during

transition year. These include:

• Work Experience• Film Studies

• Hill Walking, Sailing and Mountaineering

Work Experience

Work experience allows students to work for a few weeks and get a

feel for what real work is like. This helps them to make career choices when they leave school.

Film Studies

In this elective, we learn how to act, direct and edit films.

Hill Walking & Mountaineering

Hill walking and Mountaineering teach us how to survive in mountain and forest terrain.

Computers & ECDL

At work in ECDL in TY .

Pobalscoil Iosolde has three computer rooms with a total of over 70 computers. Students can obtain an ECDL qualification while in transition year.

Our school added a new sports hall which is

used for:• Physical Education• Parent Teacher

Meetings• Exams• School Gym• School Clubs• Competitions• Community events

Sports awards

We have had many successful teams at both county and national level.

This year we won the All Ireland basketball

championship for the second tine.

Some of our students come from many different countries. We are very proud to welcome them to our school.
