NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard which is identical with IS0 1080 : 1975 ‘Machune Tools - Morse taper shanks - Cotter slots with taper keys’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization ( IS0 ), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Drills and Reamers Sectional Committee ( PE 10 ) and aoproval of the Production Engineering Division Council.
The text of IS0 standard has been approved as suitable for publication as Indian Standard. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is specially drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring fo this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma ( , ) has been used as a decimal marker in the International Standard, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point ( . ) as the decimal marker.
In the adopted standard only metric values have been retained and the inch values deleted, as a result Tables 2 and 4 ( all in inch units ) have been dropped from the adopted IS0 1080 : 1975. Similarly scope and field of application has also been modified.
In the adopted standard reference to IS0 238 : 1974 ‘Reduction sleeves and extension sockets for tools with morse taper shanks’ appears for which Indian Standards also exist. The following related corresponding Indian Standards which are technically equivalent to IS0 238 : 1974 are to be substituted in its place:
IS 6682 : 1991 Morse taper extension sockets - Specification
IS 6702 : 1991 Morse taper reduction sleeves - Specification
The Committee responsible for the preparation of this standard is given at Annex A.

The USC of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of the Bureau of Indkn Standards Act, 1986 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. The Standard Mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of that standard under a well defined system of inspection, testing and quality control which is devised and supervised by BIS and operated by the producer. Standard marked products are also continuously checked by BIS for conformity to that standard as a further safeguard. Details of conditions under which a licence for the use of the Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers may be obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Bureau of Indian Standards
