An articulated course is a course offered at another institution that has been pre-screened by UC San Diego and is considered to be equivalent or the same as a specific UC San Diego course. These courses, once taken and transferred to UC San Diego, will automatically be considered the same as the specific UC San Diego course and can be used to satisfy major, minor, or general education requirements.

Keep in mind, not all transferrable courses are considered articulated courses.

Though articulated courses are pre-approved, students are encouraged to verify with their respective UCSD Departments or ERC Academic Advising on articulated courses as some majors have strict guidelines on articulated course counting towards requirements.

A transferable course is a course from another institution that can be transferred to UC San Diego for credit.

A UC transferable course means it is accepted for credit at any University of California campus.

This does not guarantee that the course can be used to fulfill a major, minor, or general education requirement at UC San Diego. It just means you will receive credit for taking the course once you complete it and transfer it to UC San Diego.

Sometimes there is a one-to-one articulation between community college courses at UCSD courses. Other times, there may be more than one option of courses you can take that will articulate to a particular course at UC San Diego. It is also possible that a combination of courses at the community college must be taken to be equivalent to one course at UC San Diego.

Keep in mind that there may not be any courses eligible for articulation between the Community college and UC San Diego.

Also, Assist.org is an exhaustive list of articulated and transferrable courses, meaning it shows all courses that are transferrable and articulated but not necessarily whether they’ll be offered in the term you want to take the course. Please check with the community college to see if the course you want will be offered during the term you plan on taking their courses.
