The City of Springfield operates under a Council-Manager form of government The City Manager supports the City Commission comprised of the Mayor Assistant Mayor and City Commissioners The City Manager oversees a general fund budget of $43 million and 560 employees managing relationships within the city management structure and those between the City and its residents Springfield is the 12th largest city in Ohio with a population of 59000 people Transparency strong partnerships and community support are vital components of all that the City Manager is tasked to do The next City Manager will be supported by a dedicated staff committed to the successful future of the city and itrsquos new manager The outgoing City Manager and his predecessor have a combined 30 years serving Springfield
The next City Manager will also be tasked to find ways to update aging equipment within budget to properly serve the community as well as developing innovative ways to revitalize neighborhoods and advancing Springfieldrsquos neighborhood street paving programs Read the Cityrsquos 2018-2019 Goals and Objectives

Looking toward the future of Springfield as economic growth continues moving forward the next City Manager must be prepared for the challenges that come with the administration of a changing city Springfield has its roots in industry and manufacturing and the next City Manager must maintain strong community partnerships to find ways to develop job skills for the cityrsquos future
Housing is closely associated with economic and job skills development and Springfield leaders will have to make housing decisions to fit the needs of a growing and more diversified economic climate
The City Manager is responsible for the following departments bull CommunicationsPublic Relations bull Community Development bull Economic Development bull Engineering bull Finance bull Fire Rescue Divisionbull Law Departmentbull PersonnelHuman Resourcesbull Police Divisionbull Service Department including WTP amp WWTP utilitiesbull Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airportbull Information Technologybull 911 Communications Center
THE IDEAL CITY MANAGER CANDIDATE WILL MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIAbull Bachelorrsquos Degree in political science business managment or related field from an accredited four-year college or
universitybull A Masterrsquos Degree in Public Administration or a related field is desiredbull Eight to ten years management experience preferably in a public sector settingbull Three years experience as a City Manager Assistant City Manager or equivalent government management experience
The City Commission specifically wishes to attract a broad and talented pool of professionals for consideration therefore the compensation and benefits for this position are highly competitive The salary for the position is negotiable up to a maximum of $150000 and will be dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate
In addition to relocation expense reimbursement the City offers an attractive benefits package including health care coverage participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System and access to life dental and disability insurance Additional benefits are negotiable as a part of an overall compensation package
Residency within the Springfield city limits is expected within 6 months of appointment
