Tri-State Conference Session Description & Bio’s

Human Resource Partners All Aboard! (Delise West) Don’t you wish hiring was as easy as using a bull horn and all qualified applicants came running? How many times have you hired someone who’s resume was outstanding, only to find they just “weren’t the right fit?” Turnover is costly on so many levels so hiring the right person for the right job is essential. In this session we’ll explore why (and how) to interview beyond the resume and we’ll discuss why hiring “with your gut” is not an effective approach. Impactful Leader’s Toolkit: Coaching & Mentoring (Pubali Chakravorty-Campbell) In the dynamic world of people and project management, success is often as simple as asking the right questions or saying precisely what people need to hear. Especially when you're in the midst of challenging or difficult circumstances. This is where knowing the nuances of coaching and mentoring, coupled with having advanced listening skills, takes complex to compromise. In this workshop, you'll learn and experience all three though a unique lens and leave having tangible techniques to lead and manage better than ever. Procurement - Mike Gifford Mr. Gifford is very knowledgeable in HUD and Housing Authority procurement regulations and replies to a number of procurement related inquiries regularly from both HUD and Housing Authority staff and consultants. Mr. Gifford has also been training professionals in procurement and contract management for numerous years and brings a wealth of knowledge and practical applications to the table. Sessions to include: “40 Things You May Not Know About Housing Agency Procurement”, “Quotes, Bids, and Proposals, Oh My”, “Cooperative Purchasing Concepts”, “Section 3: It’s Not As Complicated As You May Think”, and “Independent Cost Estimates (ICE) – Cost Price Analysis (CPA): Why We Do Them and How They Benefit Us”. Strategic Planning Short overview of the topics that will be presented

• The components of a strategic plan: Mission, Vision, Values, Goals, Strategies (which then lead to objectives in an annual work plan)

Page 13: is sponsoring the 2016 TRI-STATE HOUSING CONFERENCE

NEW HAMPSHIRE HOUSING AUTHORITIES CORPORATION www.nhhac.org

• Preparation for a planning process: Interviews, Environmental Scan, SWOT analysis, etc. • How/when to engage residents in the planning process • Different types of plans (Market-based, “Ivory Tower”, “Same-old Same-old plans”) • One table exercise designed to fit either the Mission-Vision-Values objective, or the plan

process objective. Conversation could be about values, how to conduct a SWOT, etc. • May include a panel at the end of workshop with 3 panelists from different housing
