OPEN SEASONSFor the purpose of defining the open seasons for big game andgame birds, the Province is divided into Management Areas (some-times referred to as M.A.'s) being B.C. Regs.36, 67 and 116/70.

The open seasons for the hunting of each species of game areshown in the tables on the following pages. All dates mentionedthereon are inclusive.

Where open seasons do not apply to the entire ManagementAreas they are marked by a colour tint and the applicable restric-tions are mentioned on the page opposite to the table under thedetailed regional map.

The open seasons declared by these Regulations shall cease tobe in effect in any area covered by a closure order issued by theForest Service ol the Department ol Lands, Forests and WaterResources and shall continue to be inelfective during the periodcovered by such lorest closure order.

Unless otherwise indicated or amended all dates in these Regu-lations apply to the period of July 1, 1974 Io June 30, 1975.

.Dates for Hunting Seasons may be changed by order of theMinister only in unusual conditions. Such changei will be givenlocal publicity.

HUNTING METHODSFirearms. Specific restrictions on the use of firearms for a givenManaEement Area are stated on the following pages under thedetailed regional maps.

ln addition the following general regulations apply:The use of military (hardpoint), tracer, incendiary or explosive

bullets for hunting game is prohibited.The use of rimfire cartridges for hunting big game is prohibited.It is unlawful to hunt game birds with a rifle, except grouse

and ptarmigan.Shotguns may be used only for the hunting of deer, black bear,

cougar, coyote, wolf , game birds and small game.A shotgun used for hunting deer must be 28 gauge or larger.Hunters are reminded that the onus is on them to Clearly

identify the species and sex of their target before shooting.Park restrictions. Hunting and/or the discharge of firearms is

not permitted in any Provincial Class C Park nor in the majority ofClass A or B Parks. The following are only a few of the 100 CiassA or B Parks where the use of firearms is prohibited: BowronLakes Park, Champion Lakes Park, Cultus Lake park, Golden EarsPark,_Manning Park, Mount Seymour Park, Newcasile Island park,and Strathcona Park. Grizzly.Bear and Black Bear. The hunting of these species is not per-mitted in that portion of Tweedsmuir park within the boundariei of.M.A. 17.

1. Tatlayoko Special Area (see map above)ln that portion of M.A, 16 bounded on the west by the Klinaklini Riverbetween Klinaklini Lake and the Bella Coola Highway Bridge, andbounded on the east by the Chilko River, the west sliore oi CnittoLake to the mouth of Tredcroft Creek, the northwest bank of TedcroftCreek to Mount Dartmouih, and the height of land separating thewatershed of Nostetuko River from the watershed of Nine Mile ereek(of Franklin Arm), the open season shall be:

.(a) 9e9l,Buck Mule (Blacktait). September 7 to November 10, witha bag limit of one Buck only,

2. Empire Valley - Big Creek Special Area (see map above)In that portion of M.A, 16 south and east of the main stem of BigCreek ihe open season shall be:(a) Deer, Buck Mule (Blacktail). September 7 lo Oclober 27.(b) qger,Antlerless Mule. October 19 to October 25. (c) M.A. 11: Cranbrook Sewage Lagoons Closed Area, Eliza-beih'Lake Closed Area, Fording Coal Closed Area, Fording RiverClosed Area, Skookumchuck Pulp Mill, Sparwood Closed Area,Wasa Sloughs and Moberly Marsh Wildlife Sanctuaries, Bergen-ham Wildlife Sanctuary.

Kokanee Glacier Park: The carrying or possession of firearmswithin the boundaries of Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park is pro-hibited, except from November 1 to December 31 inclusively.

ln M"A.'s 10 and 11 deer may be hunted using shot shells pro-vided they are SG, SSG or equivalent shot sizes.

The use of snowmobiles in hunting is prohibited in M.A.'s 9'10 and 11.

BAG LIMITSDeer M.A. 10 and 11: The bag limit for Deer (Mule and Whitetail)is two in the aggregate. Both may be Antlerless Deer providingone is from each species.

Moose and Elk M.A.9, 10 and 11: The bag limit on Moose andElk is one of either species in the aggregate.

Cougar M.A.9, 10 and 11: The bag limit on Cougar is one.Grouse (Blue, Franklin and Rufled) M.A,9, 10 and 11: The daily

aggregate for these three species is ten birds.Pheasant Cocks M.A. 10: The bag limit for cocks of this species

is twelve birds in the season.Note: Limited Entry Hunting Seasons on Mountain Goat and

Antlerless Elk may be instituted in Region V in 1975.Nole: The Creston Valley Wildlife Maangement Area is under

RETRIEVAL.lt is permitted to retrieve a dead or injured migratory game

POSSESSION AND TRANSPORT. No person shall possess or transport. a migratory g.ame bird

unless at least dne wing and thb plumage thereof remainsattached to the bird. Such a wing and plumage may beremoved:

a. when the bird is prepared for immediaie cooking, or

b. after the bird is taken to the residence of the owner for preser-vation.

EGGS AND NESTS. No person shall take, injure, or destroy the eggs or nests of

migratory birds at any time.

USES. No person shall buy or sell migratory birds or their eggs or

nests.. No person shall waste or wantonly dispose of a migratory game

bird killed or retrieved by him or in his possession.
