With all the news stories about hacking into databases and WikiLeaks, Cybersecurity is quickly becoming a concern for small business owners. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), Small employers often don’t consider themselves targets for cyberattacks due to their size or the perception that they don’t have anything worth stealing. However, they have valuable information cybercriminals seek, including employee and customer data, bank account information and access to the business’s finances and intellectual property. Small employers also provide access to larger networks such as supply chains. While some small employers already have robust cybersecurity practices in place, many small firms lack sufficient resources or personnel to dedicate to cybersecurity. Given their role in the nation’s supply chain and economy, combined with fewer resources than their larger counterparts to secure their information, systems, and networks, small employers are an attractive target for cybercriminals. The SBA offers the Top Ten List of Cybersecurity tips. Here are the a few tips to protect your business: 1. Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malicious code Make sure each of your business’s computers are equipped with antivirus software and antispyware and update regularly. Such software is readily available online from a variety of vendors. All software vendors regularly provide patches and updates to their products to correct security problems and improve functionality. Configure all software to install updates automatically. 2. Secure your networks Safeguard your Internet connection by using a firewall and encrypting information. If you have a Wi-Fi network, make sure it is secure and hidden. To hide your Wi-Fi network, set up your wireless access point or router so it does not broadcast the network name, known as the Service Set Identifier (SSID). Password protect access to the router. 3. IS YOUR BUSINESS SAFE FROM A CYBERATTACK?

Here are the a few tips to protect your business:

Delmarva Power Business Customers: Do You Want to Save Money?

In 1989 when Tony Hall and his dad opened a gym in Fenwick Island, they likely could not imagine within the next 28 years the gym would relocate, evolve, grow and even boast training three generations of several families! Originally located on Coastal Highway in Fenwick Island, Energy Gym was initially named American Health and Fitness. After five years, the gym relocated to its current location on Rt. 54, which according to Tony’s wife and business partner Gina Hall, was “considered the boondocks.” The name was changed to Energy

Gym and the journey continued. According to Gina, the fitness focus in the 1990’s was body-building. Over time, the fitness industry has moved more towards group fitness, promoting health along with a more social focus. According to Gina “this really keeps people coming back.” Over time the class schedule expanded, as did its hours, since 2012 Energy Gym is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week! While staff isn’t always present, members may access the gym, which is video monitored in the off-hours. She sites many success stories of class participants who have “become certified to teach, and then become instructors themselves; once a student, now the teacher!” They offer positive examples by empowering themselves and offering encouragement to their students. According to Gina, “two handfuls of members swear coming to Energy Gym saved their life.” Gina recognizes the demographics of Energy’s members, and caters to a more mature population by offering user-friendly equipment, as well as state of the art pieces. Energy also offers newly-popular classes, such as Barre, and an app for members to use for class registration. A few years ago Energy added personal training, promoting the ability for members to achieve their fitness goals, because “if you weren’t seeing results, you wouldn’t come back.” Along with the personal training, Energy offers information for its members about nutrition and other aspects of a healthy lifestyle, as well as tanning. The future for Energy Gym is bright. The development along Rt. 54 has certainly changed the landscape of what was formerly considered the boondocks. With Gina and Tony’s dedication and vision, Energy Gym will continue to enhance residents’ and visitors’ health, one class, cardio apparatus and dumbbell at a time!

Attention Delmarva Power business customers: the Chamber is in the process of forming a new energy buying group, and you are eligible to join! This is an exclusive member benefit.

What is an energy buying group? An energy buying group, or co-op, is like a volume discount. Ed Jackson of Affinity Energy Management will negotiate a group rate per kilowatt for those who choose to participate, and locks in the most favorable contract, typically a two or three year term. As an example, last year we locked in two buying groups at a rate that was more than 20% less than Delmarva Power’s tariff rates, and are saving these members more than $150,000 in the first year of their contract. Started in 2006, The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce was the first chamber in Delaware to offer its members an electric buying co-op.

How does it work? You supply a copy of all pages (front and back) of your Delmarva Power bill to Ed Jackson by May 15, 2017. Ed will determine your savings and negotiate a contract with the most favorable supplier, and you have a lower supply rate beginning July 2017. You continue to be billed by Delmarva Power as you always have, the only difference is who the energy supplier is, and the lower rate!

Why should you consider it?This is an exclusive member benefit for Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce members. Currently we have almost 100 members, comprising over 250 accounts participating in our energy buying co-ops. Our Chamber members have saved more than $1 million since 2010.

Act now!Send a copy of your most recent Delmarva Power bill (front and back) to Ed Jackson by May 15, 2017: [email protected], or Fax – (866) 480-7811.

DNREC UNVEILS SHELLFISH AQUACULTURE MAP FOR THE INLAND BAYSThe Delaware Division of Fish & Wildlife’s Shellfish Aquaculture Program has posted an interactive map that provides site-specific information helpful for selecting shellfish aquaculture lease locations in the Inland Bays. The map shows those areas covered by the recent Statewide Activity Approval (SAA) issued by DNREC’s Wetlands and Subaqueous Lands Section which facilitates the expedited process-ing of shellfish aquaculture lease applications. The interactive map, which depicts prohibited and seasonally-closed shellfish areas, allows users to gather information on shellfish aquaculture areas covered by the SAA, including location coordinates and which acres have been sampled and are eligible for leasing based on natural hard clam density. The map also will serve as a tool for identifying shellfish aquaculture acreage as it is leased in the future. DNREC will initiate leasing of shellfish aquaculture acreage through an initial lottery and begin accept-ing aquaculture lease applications soon after the scheduled issuance later this month of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ new nationwide permit and regional conditions which are anticipated to govern shellfish aquaculture in specific areas of the Inland Bays. READING OF RACING DEMON- A TRUE LENTEN EXPERIENCE The Bethany Area Repertory Theater (BART) is pleased to announce a staged dramatic reading of David Hare’s Racing Demon on April 6 and 7 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ocean City, Maryland. During this Lenten season, the presentation, in collaboration with local area clergy from parishes in both Delaware and Maryland, is intended to foster a deeper understanding of what both divides us and unites us as people of faith. Racing Demon, first of a trio of plays about British institutions, premiered in 1990 and takes place in South London at a time when the Church of England was in turmoil. Through the struggle of four clergymen trying to make sense of their mission, it tackles issues such as the ordination of women and gays, and the role of evangelism in inner-city communities. “The staged reading of Racing Demon deals with many of the issues facing pastors and churchgoers of all faiths,” says Reverend Knepp, Pastor at St. Peter’s “and people of all faiths will be able to relate.” Play Director Reverend Rusty Hesse of BART adds, “By having active clergy from a variety of denom-inations play the main characters, the passion of the play comes from the heart of those of us that deal with the issues of church, state, and of the people every day.” Racing Demon will be presented two nights only, April 6 and 7 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 10301 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Maryland. Doors to the Sanctuary open at 7pm for the 7:30 show. Reservations can be made by calling 302.539.7324. Tickets are $25. All proceeds benefit the partici-pating local churches and the BART Scholarship Fund. Visit facebook.com/BARTinBethany to get the latest BART news.

SODEL CONCEPTS BREAKS GROUND ON NEW BLUECOASTSoDel Concepts, one of Delaware’s largest restaurant groups, recently broke ground on its latest business venture. The company will open its 10th restaurant, the second Bluecoast Seafood Grill & Raw Bar, in the Rehoboth Gateway Mall by June 2017. The shopping center on Route 1 is already home to The Fresh Market and Bed Bath and Beyond.“This will be our most exciting project yet,” Scott Kammerer said, in a recent press release. Kammerer is president of SoDel Concepts, which also owns Plate Catering, the food truck Big Thunder Roadside Kitchen and hospitality management and consulting divisions. “Bluecoast in Bethany Beach, our flagship restaurant, has received National recognition. We’re pleased to bring the concept to our customers north of the Indian River Inlet Bridge.”The 250-seat, 4,500-square-foot restaurant will have an outdoor area with several fire pits, cornhole games and an acoustic stage. The restaurant will employ more than 100 year-round jobs in the coastal area. Just like the restaurant in Bethany, the menu will highlight oysters and seafood, as well as a selection of steaks and other Bluecoast favorites. “We’re looking forward to working with the local companies who are helping us make the second Bluecoast a reality,” vice president, Doug Ruley said, adding that “Lingo Asset Management and Broadpoint Construction, both based in Rehoboth Beach, are working on the project.”

AROUND THE Quiet Resorts

Salted Vines Vineyard and Winery in Frankford hosted the March Business After Hours. Members packed the place tasting the different varieties and, of course, networking.

Heather, Lisa and Tiffany from Heather’s Home-works spotlighted their business this month. Two lucky attendees walked away with 3 hours of free cleaning.

It was family affair. Jerry Connolly, owner of C Breeze Shuttle and Limo Service, was behind the counter serving wine. His daughter, Katie Duke, is the general manager of the vineyard.

Our MissionThe Chamber’s mission is to develop and implement destination events, participate in advocacy efforts, and provide opportunities for networking, marketing and education with a goal of improving member success and enhance the quality of life throughout the Quiet Resorts.
