Introduction to Isaiah Isaiah Chapter 1 1 ¶ The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw over Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz Hezekiah, kings of Judah. 2 ¶ Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth! Because Yahweh has spoken: I brought up and raised up children, but they rebelled against Me. 3 An ox knows its owner, and a donkey the feeding trough of its master, but Israel does not know; My people do not understood. 4 Woe, nation of sinners, a people heavy with guilt, an offspring of evildoers, sons of corruption! They have abandoned Yahweh; they despised the Holy One of Israel. They have separated backward. 5 Why will you be still stricken? Will you continue the rebellion? All of the head is sick, and all of the heart is ill. 6 From the sole of the foot even to the head, a healthy place is not in it; a wound and a bruise and a fresh wound; they have not been pressed closed, neither have they been wrapped; and they have not been softened with olive oil.



7 Your land is desolate; your cities burned with fire. Foreigners are devouring your land before you; and a desolation, as an overthrow by foreigners. 8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a hut in a cucumber field, as a besieged city. 9 Except Yahweh of Hosts had caused to be left a remnant for us, a few, we would have been as Sodom; we would been like Gomorrah. 10 ¶ Hear the Word of Yahweh, rulers of Sodom. Listen to the Law of our God, people of Gomorrah. 11 For What are your many sacrifices to Me, says Yahweh? I am have been filled with burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fattened cattle, and the blood of bulls and of lambs and he-goats; I have not been pleased. 12 Because you come to appear before Me, who has required these things from your hand, to tread My court? 13 You will not continue to bring a worthless offering; incense is an abomination to Me. I am not tolerating the new moon and sabbath, the call to assemble; wickedness is even in the sacred assembly. 14 My soul has hated your new moons and your feasts. They are a burden for Me. I am weary of carrying them. 15 And when you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; also, when you increase prayer, I will not be hearing. Your hands are full of blood. 16 ¶ Wash, cleanse yourselves. Remove the evil of your doings from before My eyes; cease to do evil. 17 Learn to do good, seek justice, relieve the oppressed, provide justice for the orphan, plead for the widow. 18 Come now and let us reason, says Yahweh: If your sins are as scarlet, they will become white as snow; if they are red as scarlet things, they will become as wool.



19 If you are willing and you have been obedient, you will eat the good of the land; 20 and if you refuse and have become rebellious, you will be devoured with the sword; because the mouth of Yahweh has spoken. 21 ¶ How the faithful city has become to a prostitute! It was full of justice; righteousness was lodging in it; but now murderers! 22 Your silver has become dross; your wine is diluted in water. 23 Your rulers are rebelling and are companions of thieves. All of them loves a gift, and is running after bribes. They are not judging for orphans, nor does the judgment of the widow come to them. 24 Therefore, a declaration of the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Woe! I will comfort Myself of My adversaries, and I will avenge Myself of My enemies. 25 And I will turn back My hand upon you, and purge your dross, as cleansing, and I will remove all your alloy. 26 And I will restore your judges as in the first; and your counselors, as in the beginning; then after it will be called for yourself the city of righteousness, a faithful city. 27 Zion shall be redeemed in judgment, and the ones returning in righteousness. 28 And the rebelling ones and the sinners will be destroyed together . And the ones forsaking Yahweh will be consumed. 29 Because you will be ashamed of the great oaks which you have desired; and you will be ashamed from the gardens which you have chosen. 30 Because you will be as an oak tree whose leaves wither, and as a garden which has no water for it. 31 And the strong one will be for tinder, and his work for a spark; and the two of them will burn together; and there will be no one quenching them.
