The Challenge of Liberty2014 Summer Seminars for Students
Have you wondered what it means to be “free” or why markets are able to deliver goods and services to vast numbers of people? If you never had the opportunity to learn and debate these ideas in college, now is your chance! Our Challenge of Liberty Summer Seminars are for students who want to better understand real-world issues they will encounter throughout life. Students will be exposed to the big questions concerning government and the individual, participate in-depth discussions, and have the chance to meet and network with like-minded peers from across the country and even all over the world. This five-day series of lectures, readings, films, multimedia presentations, and small group discussion teaches students what economics is, how it affects their lives, and how understanding it can help them achieve better lives for themselves, their communities, and the world at large. Informative, inspiring, and fun, The Challenge of Liberty Summer Seminars is an ideal way to make the summer break intellectually rewarding. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of liberty and a new network of friends and career prospects.
College Seminar: June 16–June 20 • Colorado July 7–July 11 • Berkeley, CAHigh School Seminar: July 14 –18 • Oakland, CA

Improved education is offering a hope of narrowing the gap between the less and more skilled workers, of fending off the prior prospect of a society divided between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots,’ of a class society in which an educated elite provided welfare for a permanent class of unemployables. We have so far only seen the early fruits from the introduction of vouchers, from giving parents a choice. The best is yet to come as competition and the market work their wonders.
– Milton Friedman
