The Figure shows the minimum set of components for setting up the IUC solution. A user workplace is provided with a desktop phone (analog, ISDN or VoIP) connected to the SI3000 system. The computer has installed Microsoft® Offi ce Communicator 2007, operating as a user interface to telephony services. The same telephone number is used for the desktop phone and for the interface. The unifi ed communications do not require the replacement of the existing equipment.

The Iskratel Unifi ed Communications solution includes three vital systems: 1. Iskratel communications system sets up and manages the voice connections between the IUC solution users, and connects them with the PSTN.

2. Microsoft® Offi ce Communications Server 2007 performs all the synchronous communications: instant messaging, VoIP, audio- and videoconference calls. It provides an overview of the presence status and access to contact information stored in the Microsoft® Active Directory name system. The role of the user interface is performed by the applications Microsoft® Offi ce Communicator 2007 and Microsoft® Offi ce Live Meeting 2007.

3. Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007 is a system for the exchange of messages and e-mail with unifi ed messaging as an added functionality.

A non-existent connection between communication channels and paths is a nightmare of modern enterprises. Unorganized and ineffi cient communications are the cause of communication blocks, failed connections and more diffi cult contact traceability.

Despite the progress of business communications the enterprises still suff er the consequences of the gap between telephony and information systems. Iskratel and Microsoft off er their help at bridging this gap. Their contributions to the company are:

Instead of communications fi nding their way to employees, it is up to employees to fi nd their way to communications.

IUC means more than just the transition of business communications to an IP technology platform. The solution merges formerly divided communication infrastructure fi elds. Voice and fax messages are transfered using the same network elements as emails and web content.
