Island Peak Climbing ( Imja -Tse)
Isaland peak climbing offers an enjoyable climb the peak, Island peak climbing also provides some of the most
striking scenery in the Khumbu. If the peak can be likened to an Island in a glacial sea, than the main land forms a
semicircle of cliffs that rise in the north to the rugged summit of Nuptse ( 7879m/ 25850ft ), Lhotse (9501m/27870ft),
Lhotse middle peak( 8410m/ 27590ft), as yet still unclimbed and Lhotse Shar ( 8383m/ 27503ft ). To the east, rising
above the frozen waves of the Lhotse Shar glacier, is Cho polu( 6734m/ 22093ft ), beyond which can be seen the red
granite mass of Makalu ( 8475m/ 27805ft). The peak was named Island peak by Eric Shipton's party in 1983. The
peak was renamed in 1983. As the peak resembles as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche.Island
peak climbing is a great trek and climb in an ancient land where Sherpas still graze yaks, cook on yak dung fires
and live a very simple life. Porters to make our trip more enjoyable and culturally interesting will carry our food and
equipment. We can do tea house trek till Dingboche and hire the needed food and equpment form Dingboche.
To the south of the Imja glacier and icy flutings of Baruntse (7720m/ 25328ft) and the Amphu peaks lead the eye to
the lofty pinnacle of Ama Dablam ( 6856m/ 22493ft ), which is liked a giant sea stack guarding the entrance to the
glacial bay in whichIsland peak stands.

Day 01: Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding: In the morning, participants will take a spectacular 40-minute flight
from Kathmandu to Lukla - perched at 9400ft (2865m) in the Khumbu region of Eastern Nepal -
providing unforgettable views of the terraced landscape and river valleys below, as well as up-close
perspectives of some of the worlds highest mountains followed by a trip to Phakding (8700ft, 2650m).
After an easy afternoons scenic walk, camp in Phakding.
Day 02: Phakding - Namche Bazaar (Elevation: 3446m) Walking through the magnificent forest of
rhododendron, ending your nature-filled journey at Namche Bazaar (7 hrs from Phakding). While
passing this long and often-steep passage, experience both the serenity and scenery of blue pine
forests, firs, and junipers - all serving as the foreground to the beautiful backsplash that is Mount
Everest.
Day 03: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar:Enjoy the beauty of Namches quaint village as well as the
friendliness and hospitality of its local Sherpa people. Visit the local museum containing exhibits
displaying the areas native flora and fauna as well as the history of the Mount Everest reg ion.
Day 04: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3867m): Begin their trek with awe-inspiring, unforgettable views of
Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cholatse, Kantaiga, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. This stretch of the
trek (approximately three hours) is quite an easy walk from Namche to Phunki, followed by a three-hour
ascent towards Tengboche.
Day 05: Tengboche - Pheriche (4252m):A short days journey towards Pheriche consists of a trek through
forests filled with of a variety of lush trees - birch, conifers and rhododendron. This picturesque trail dips
down to Devuche, crossing the Imja River before climbing up to Pheriche.
Day 06: Rest day in Pheriche: A day to rest and acclimatize and a chance to wander up the valley to look at a
lake, the Tshola Tsho and the perpendicular walls of Cholatse and Tawache. Alternatively, we can
climb up onto the ridge overlooking Dingboche for the view up the Imja Valley and the incredible south
face of Lhotse.
Day 07: Pheriche - Lobuche (4930m): continue up the wide valley beneath the impressive peaks of Cholatse
and Tawache on the left then turn right and climb more steeply towards the foot of the Khumbu Glacier.,
before zigzagging up through the boulders of the glacier's terminal moraine.
Day 08: Lobuche- Gorak Shep (5184m): To reach our next objective, Kala Pattar, the trail follows the Khumbu
Glacier, and offers superb views of the surrounding mountains, especially where the path is forced to
rise to cross a tributary glacier. Later in the afternoon, when the sunset colors begin to appear on
Everest, we make our way to the top of one of the finest viewpoints in the Everest region, Kala Pattar
[5554m].
Day 09: Trek to Everest base camp (5357m): To reach Everest Base Camp, a very early start is required, as it
takes several hours on a trail which weaves its way through ice pinnacles and past the crevasses of the
Khumbu Glacier. On the return leg, we can take a higher route to get a spectacular view of the Khumbu
icefall and the route to the South Col. We return to Gorak Shep.
Day 10: Gorak Shep- Dingboche (4350m) We head back down today, through Duglha, to the summer village
of Dingboche, where the houses are dotted about in the fields.

Day 11: Dingboche -Chukhung (4750m): An easy walk for about 2 hours, climbing up gradually to the small
settlement of Chukhung. Along the way we have great views of Island Peak and the challenge that
awaits us.
Day 12: Chukhung- island peak base camp (5150m): Camp Another easy day, the trail crosses the river and
follows the valley for approx 3 hours, passing beneath the magnificent south face of Lhotse. Base camp
is by the side of the Imja glacier, below steep grassy slopes which mark the start of the climb on Island
Peak.
Day 13: Base camp -high camp: We ascend a little further to high camp where we will relax and make final
preparations for our climb tomorrow.
Day 14: Ascent of island peak (6189m): Crossing the gully above the camp the trail makes a climb for another
hour to a narrow ridge, leading on to the glacier. Here it is time to rope-up and put on our crampons as
the most interesting part of the climb begins with the glacier crossing. This is followed by the steep
snow slope that leads onto the summit ridge. This ridge is wonderfully airy and on reaching the summit
we have stunning close-up views of the south face of Lhotse looming over us whilst in the other
direction, there are more dramatic mountain views. We descend along the same route, down to base
camp.
Day 15: Spare day:camp A contingency day allocated for weather etc.
Day 16: Island peak base camp- Pangboche (3950m): After descending along the trail to Chukhung, we
continue on to Dingboche for lunch. It is then another couple of hours to the lovely village of
Pangboche.
Day 17: Pangboche- Namche (3450m): follow the river and, after crossing it, climb back up through birch and
rhododendron forest to Tengboche. Kwangde, Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam,
Kantega and Thamserku are just a few of the Himalayan giants to be seen. From Tengboche we
descend to the bridge over the Dudh Kosi at Phunki Tenga, where there are water driven prayer
wheels, before making our way back to Namche.
Day 18: Namche -Lukla (2800m): Final day's trekking follows the Dudh Kosi back down to Lukla. This last
evening in the mountains is the ideal opportunity for a farewell party with the Sherpa guides and
porters, where we can sample some chang, try Sherpa dancing and look back on a memorable trekking
experience.
Day 19: Lukla - Kathmandu: After breakfast, transfer to airport, fly to Kathmandu takes half an hour.
