Architectural Modell
The architecture grows out of the topography and renes itself to a topographic architecture. The design bases on the main features of moorish citys. So there is a combination of tight-ness and wideness, which connects the historic center with the new amenco center. Also the architecture turns away from the street, like moorish private houses or alcazabas.

Reception
CarasFlamenco is a multi-faced culture. It often arises out of small, private and intimate gatherings where people play both the role of performer and audience. These spontaneous gatherings spark the light of the city and evolve into great public performances with professional fl amenco dancing and music. These contrasts between public and private, performance and audience, exposure and intimacy, have inspired this proposal.
Flamenco is in the heart of the citys culture and it represents public life in and around Jerez de la Frontera. The diver se identities of fl amenco can be experienced in a building, by gradually moving through the narrow medina streets up towards the roof of the historic city of Jerez.
La etapa de flamenco
Ciudad La etapa de fl amenco adds to the cities fabric by creating various atmospheres, which represent diff erent scales of fl amenco culture.Although a signifi cant program and volume is added, the identity of the urban fabric with modest buildings and narrow, labyrinthian streets remains. Like an old medina the center of La etapa de fl amenco is an informal place where everyday life can erupt in spontaneous fl amenco dancing and singing. The center is fl anked by the formal auditorium and an equestrian arena where grand shows can take place. Another plaza is situated in the opposite corner from the equestrian arena. People can sit here and relax in the evening to see people go by and watch a fl amenco show. With grand city celebrations the auditorium can open up, inside and outside become connected and city life merges in one big crowd.
CaminoThe medina, the two plazas and the diff erent functions are interconnected by a route. The diff erent functions in the complex represent the diverse aspects of fl amenco culture. By wandering through the complex the visitors can experience fl amenco culture in various ways: see it from the front and back, in a public or more intimate way or the visitor is sometimes close to the performers and otherwise further away. Or he even becomes performer himself. Informal gatherings in the medina contrast professional shows in the bigger spaces.
MuseoThe routes through La etapa de fl amenco become the museum. They immerse visitors in diff erent aspects of fl amenco by leading them past the diff erent functions in the complex. In its form and organization the building has a strong relation with its surroundings and the wider context.
RocaThe building appears like a rock, which opens up to secretly show some of its content. By contrasting materialization the complex stays at a human scale. The stone mass is contrasted by light fabric sheets off ering shadow in the heat of the day. The use of textile refers to the fl amboyant dresses of fl amenco dancers.
