147 ISOM News Report on II International Congress: Updates and Advances in Clinical Nu- trition and Orthomolecular Medicine Valencia, Spain June 15, 16 Dr. Antonio Marco Chover and the Spanish Society for Organology and Or- ganotherapy hosted 200 delegates at the II Orthomolecular Congress in the beautiful city of Valencia. e comprehensive program presented speakers from Spain, France, the Netherlands, Japan, and the United States. e ISOM had a prominent exhibit space where we featured the Journal of Orthomolec- ular Medicine and promoted ISOM member- ship. Featured speakers and topics included: Dr. Marco Francisco Paya Torres: “Sea Water, an Indispensable Medium for Physiological Regulation”; Dr. Stephen Olmstead: “Life on the Edge-A Nutraceutical Approach to Pathogenic GI Biolm”; Dr. Atsuo Yanagi- sawa: “Vitamin C Can Prevent Radiation Damage: Results from Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Workers”; Dr. Matthias Rath: “Progress in the Natural Control of Cancer by Cellular Medicine”; Dr. Ron Hunning- hake: “Ascorbic Acid and Adjunctive Can- cer Care-New Science Regarding an Old Vitamin”; Dr. Antonio Marco Chover/ Dra. Francisca Silvestre: “Decreased Levels of Vi- tamin D 3 in Spain. Presentation of First Part of the Study”. We look forward to the next Orthomolecular Congress in Spain in 2014. JCIT Joins ISOM We are pleased to announce that the Japanese College of Intravenous erapy has ocially become an associate member of the International Society for Orthomolecu- lar Medicine. e College, founded in 2007 with Dr. Atsuo Yanagi- sawa as President, has grown to almost 440 doctors in 432 clin- ics and hospitals in every region of Ja- pan. In April 2012, the JCIT released the important DVD on the protective eects of intravenous and oral vitamin C on radia- tion exposure from the Fukushima nuclear plant in March 2011. e JCIT, the Japanese Society for Or- thomolecular Medicine, under the leadership of Ken Kitahara, and the ISOM will co-host a conference in Tokyo on October, 13, 2013. 1st Orthomolecular Medicine Conference in Mexico Roberto Ortiz, president of the Mexi- can Association for Orthomolecular Nu- trition (AMNO) has announced the First Orthomolecular Medicine conference to be held in Mexico City, at the Hotel Sheraton Reforma, November 23 and 24. Supported by the ISOM, the program will highlight Tom Levy on reversing coronary arterioscle- rosis; Atsuo Yanagisawa on IV vitamin C and radioprotection; Mario Garcia Figueroa on treating fatty liver; Sandro Zuniga on orthomolecular detoxication; Sara Bar- bosa and Mario Barnabe on diabetes; Ste- ven Carter on orthomolecular pioneers; and aida Landero on orthomolecular medi- cine in Mexico. e colourful conference poster (pictured overleaf in black and white) features the human gure supported by or- tho-molecules. In the background is the tree of life and, appropriately for Mexico City, Patecatl, the Aztec god of healing.
