The Power ofa Basket

In this scripture we find Saul (Paul) right after his “Damas-

cus” road experience. The Jewish people were finding it hard to be-lieve that this was the same person who a few days earlier was perse-cuting and killing Christians. The disciples intervened, by lowering him in a basket to safety and Barn-abas bridged the gap and spoke on his behalf.

I think of the basket in this story in relation to our work here at the pregnancy center. Just like in the book of Acts our basket is filled with people, problems and poten-tial. The people in our basket are our clients. Their problem is the crisis of an unintended pregnancy. But here comes my favorite part…the potential!

Every day we have the potential to serve those in need, to influence

someone with not only our atti-tudes, but our actions and words.

In 2016 we are committed to help-ing more women and men make life-affirming decisions. This could be the year more moms and dads choose life for their babies. This could be the year when more solid, two-parent families are created as a result of time spent within our doors. This could be the year more of our clients come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We can see this accomplished if we act on what God has entrusted to us in our baskets. Go ahead, experience the power of a basket...you may have the next apostle Paul!

*Special thanks to my friendPastor Jim McComas for the sermon on “The Power of a Basket”.

Each one of us has a basket…it may not be used for lowering people down walls as we find in Chapter 9 of the book of Acts, nevertheless we have one.

Quote:Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?Luke 12:6 KJV

With all that has been on the internet about the atrocities

at abortion clinics, it is refreshing to hear what a former client recent-ly said when asked about Richland Pregnancy Services.

She admitted being scared and confused and not knowing what to do. Her boyfriend said “abortion is not an option for us.” He then called RPS and made the initial appointment to verify the pregnan-cy. It was my wife Dolores’ privi-lege to mentor that former client. I had the privilege to mentor the boyfriend. Today, they are married and have a growing family, great jobs and play a vital part in the church where they attend.

After hearing this testimonial, my wife and I looked back over all the clients (since starting here in 2008) with whom we had a part as their

mentor mom and mentor dad. We often forget to look back, reflect and thank the Lord that we chose to obey Him when He prompted us to look into serving here at RPS. In January of 2010, I was asked to become the Director of Men’s Ministries here. My wife and I cannot say enough about the joy we have serving here. To think, without our faithful and growing list of donors, we would not be able to enjoy this ministry. As we begin a new year, we are encouraged by the growing num-ber of churches doing the Baby Bottle Boomerang fund-raiser.

With every joy we experience here, our donors share in the reward that awaits us when we see our Savior face-to-face one day. For that, we are thankful and grateful.

An enjoyable part of my job is having interaction with nursing students. Some come just for an hour as part of learning what services are available to pregnant women in the area. Many students say that they did not

realize the extent of our services, and some had not known that we even exist. Some of the Ashland University students sponsored a fund drive for RPS, which enabled them to donate an abundance of items for our boutique.

I am also a preceptor for nursing students in their community and obstetrics rotation at North Central State College. For that program, each student is with me for 32 hours. Those students are able to see clients, to be ultrasound assistants, and to do medical paperwork and charting. They have said that what they learn here enhances their class work for the semester, and they learn about nursing outside of the hospital setting.

We are pleased that these future nurses have the opportunity to learn about RPS, so that they can tell their future patients, and their friends, about the ministry and services we provide to the community.

RPS provides the parents with Biblically based, current informa-tion on child development, infant care, parent interaction and safety. Our classes are taught by faithful volunteers who are knowledgeable in their subjects. These volunteers include nurses, social workers, teachers, pastors and experienced moms and dads.

We wanted you to meet a few of our parents from our most recent class. “Thank you” to our donors for making this program available to our clients, so that they can provide a safe sleep environment for their babies.

KEEPING AN EYE ON IT !

63% of post-abortion men agreed that men involved in abortion have disturbing thoughts about it afterwards.

much in so little time from. We learned skills that have helped us handle our four year old easier. He is more open about his school and

Building Needs

If you have been thinking about giving to RPS we have some areas that can use your donation.

We would like to finish our back area parking lot. We also need repairs for our roof. When it rains we are seeing leaks in our ceiling.
