1 Issue: 145 December 2017 School Expectations: Be Safe, Respectful, Responsible and a Learner Mount Morgan State High School Newsletter Hello Students, Parents, Carers and local Community members, This being the final newsletter for 2017, I wish to take the opportunity to mention some of the achievements we have reached this year. I will start at the end with the fantastic achievement of every Year 12 student being suc- cessful in acquiring his or her Queensland Certificate on Education. That means that 100% of our Year 12 students have succeeded. What an inspiring outcome for our won- derful young adults to set them up for their future. This is the second year running that Mount Morgan High has achieved 100% QCE attainment. I want to thank Parents and Staff for the support given to our Students through the tough times they encountered. Last year we teamed up with Emerald Agricultural College to offer students an oppor- tunity to acquire a Certificate II in Agricultural Operations. I am pleased to report that all students in this program were successful in achieving their Certificate II. Congratulations to those students and to Bill and Salena from Emerald Ag College and thank you for your team work with Mount Morgan State High School. Approximately 12 students are in the process of enrolling in this exciting Certificate II program for 2018-19. Our Footy Boys? Well, what can I say? These lads would have to be the best mannered and demonstrated the finest sportsmanship of any players I have seen. It is a credit to them and their Coaches for how they play the game. On top of all that, each of the three teams were successful in winning their Grand Final. Well done Players and Coaches. I want to also thank Mr Keran McGuire for his tireless voluntary effort in building our oval to be what is now one of the best ovals around Rockhampton. Some of the improvements to the school this year have been the Electronic Notice board on Central Street to improve communication with our Community and a CCTV system throughout the school to improve security for our students. Thank you everyone for a fantastic year and I look forward to working with everyone in 2018 and beyond. Have a great Christmas and a prosperous new year. Keep a watch on our school these holidays

With the holidays fast approaching, we need you to look out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see anything suspicious, please remember to call the School Watch number – 13 17 88. The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools. If you do see something suspicious, please don’t at tempt to intervene. Call the School Watch number and let the local police or State Government Protective Se-curity Service deal with the matter. Keep the number handy – 13 17 88 – and let’s work together to help create a safer school community. If you would like to know more about the School Watch Program, please call Education Queensland's School Security Section on (07) 3237 0874.

CQU Art Competition

In Term 3, all students enrolled in Visual Art were invited to enter the Central Queensland University Art Competition.

This competition was to celebrate the uni-versity turning 50 years. Students were required to paint one or two tiles to cele-brate this occasion. Students who com-pleted their painting, have now had their tile placed onto a permanent mural that can be found near the Food Court/Commercial Centre at CQU.

In addition to this great opportunity, MMSHS won 2nd place in the competi-tion thanks to the very talented Lorrina Seppings. Well done Lorrina! Ms O’Brien wishes to thank all students who had a go at painting their tile.

Rotary Club of Mount Morgan and Rockhampton South

Generous Donation Mount Morgan High School staff would like to acknowledge and thank the Mount Morgan and Rockhampton South Rotary Club for their very kind contribution to our school. Their generous contribution will enable our Year 10 students to attend the North Keppel Island Environmental Education Centre (NKIEEC) camp next year(2018). The North Keppel camp is an extra curriculum experience which involves 5 days and 4 nights on an island with 6 meals a day, positive well being activities from raft building, canoeing, snorkelling, hiking, plankton trawling and fishing. It involves team building trust activities and positive goal setting. Further goals for NKIEEC are listed below: • To promote personal goal setting • Extend connections to developing capabilities/values to be an active and responsible citizen. • To develop positive well-being strategies • To engage in meaningful hands on tasks • To find purpose in education • Develop skills for promoting team trust • Provide opportunities in a safe environment to self-regulate • Orchestrate skills for working together in

problem solving situations • To increase resilience and self esteem We are hoping the camp will be something they can strive towards and at the same time provide them with a purposeful goal to keep them engaged in their first term of learning in 2018. We are ecstatic Rotary Club Mount Morgan and

Rockhampton South are helping to fund the extra

amount needed for students to engage in this camp

at NKIEEC.
