PRODUCTION – THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF SUPERSTAN – TOMORROW NIGHT

I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed so willingly and enthusiastically to ensure tomorrow night is a wonderful evening of entertainment and a time when memories are made and shared, with family and friends.

Your children have been given the opportunity to develop their creative skills and to work as part of a team. They have worked together to achieve a common goal – the marvellous performance you will witness tomorrow night. The smallest of roles can have a big impact, which is something your children have quickly learnt. They know if they don’t learn their lines or their dance steps, they will let everyone else down. I congratulate all the students on their discipline and perseverance in mastering their role. The School Production has arrived at last Settle back and meet the comical cast. The tickets and programmes have been distributed, Reminders sent “All photos and videoing prohibited”. The curtains will open. The lights will go out. “Everyone in place!” the director will shout. All will be ready. Not a thing left to chance. Relax and enjoy a night of song and dance The engaging Preps will win your hearts As they strut their stuff and act their parts. The students will fill us with good cheer As they dance and sing in Megaville so near. When Stanley discovers the Candy King, Is a Super-Villain he must to justice bring. The brief case will open; gravity pants revealed. No longer Stanley’s powers will be concealed. All the students will enchant and entertain, The villainous Candy King shows his game. The rollicking fun of this entertaining play Will have you in stitches, is what I say.

RUOK? DAY 12TH

SEPTEMBER

RUOK? Is a national charity inspiring and empowering everyone to meaningful connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life.

Thursday 12th September 2019 | R U OK? Day is a national day of action, dedicated to inspiring all people of all backgrounds to regularly ask each other 'Are you OK?' It's a national day of action which aims to prevent suicide by encouraging Australians to connect with someone they care about and help stop little problems turning into big ones. On that day the aim of the organization is that everyone across the country, from all backgrounds and walks of life, asks family, friends and colleagues: "Are you OK?“ Staying connected with others is crucial to our general health and wellbeing. Feeling isolated or hopeless can contribute to depression and other mental illnesses, which can ultimately result in suicide. Regular, meaningful conversations can protect those we know and love. Got a niggling feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More agitated or withdrawn? Or they’re just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it. Talk to them and ask them if they ROK. By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not ok, you can follow the conversation steps of the RUOK? Awareness organisation to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask. It's so simple. In the time it takes to have a coffee, you can start a conversation that could change a life. R U OK? CLASS FORMATION

The process for student placement for 2020 is about to commence in a few weeks. We aim to have well-balanced classes of students that take into account each student’s social, emotional and academic development and friendship groups.

Class compositions are based on Level groupings (Foundation - Preps; Junior School – Grades One and two; Middle School – Grades Three and Four and Senior School – Grades Five and Six.

We endeavour to make optimum use of prior knowledge teachers, parents and others have of each student prior to class placement. This is a lengthy process and entails much discussion and sharing of information between staff.

If there is any information you consider important for the school to be aware of, please put it in writing and return to me before Monday 7th October.

2020 SCHOOL NUMBERS

It is that time of year when schools are preparing for the following year and student numbers are critical to the school’s staffing structure. For many of you it must seem very early in the year, but for schools it is imperative that we have knowledge of numbers for staffing and other resources.

I would ask you to please complete the required Student Admission Enrolment Form if you intend to enrol a new student at Burwood Heights Pr imary School in 2020. This form is available from the main office or on the school’s website. It can be forwarded by mail if requested.

PLEASE WATCH OVER OUR SCHOOL DURING THE BREAK

If you see any incident that impacts on the safety or wellbeing of staff, students or visitors in or around schools, especially after school hours, you can alert Emergency Management by phoning 95896266 (24 hour service). Of course, if what you see is criminal behaviour, call the police on 000.

In order to keep our school secure it is incumbent upon us all to be vigilant at all times. Unwanted visitors to the school should be reported to the police immediately.

Please help us to keep our school safe from vandalism. Report intruders to the police. No one should be on the school property when the school is not operating.

Thank you.

Allegro School Choir

Performed at the

Monash Youth Music Festival

Over six hundred children and young adults have participated in the Monash Youth Music

Festival since 1978 with delightful piano, vocal, strings and wind solo performances and

magnificent ensemble and choral events.

The Allegro Choir competed in the Primary School Division of the Monash Youth Music Festival

against many other schools, government and non-government. The level of competition was

extremely high and the audience was totally enthralled with all the performances.

We are proud to have received outstanding praise from adjudicator, Jenny Mathers, saying

Allegro’s songs had an ‘evocative opening’ and that ‘we know exactly what we are doing.’ For

our efforts this year, we received an Honourable Mention. Some of the feedback comments

from our students highlight what choir means to them.

“Choir is very enjoyable, you can

sing with your friends and learn

new songs.”

– Jonathan 5/6K

“It was so fun because we had such a

big stage and lots of people watching

us. Lots of people were clapping for us

at the end.”

– Caitlin 3/4P

“I felt happy to perform because I liked

the songs we sang at the competi-

tion.”

- Zoe 3/4R

“I like how we got to learn a

variety of songs and per-

form them in-front of an au-

dience.”

- Zahra 3/4E

“I enjoyed watching the

other schools perform. I felt

excited to sing in-front of

everyone.”

- Bella 3/4W

Special thank you to Mrs Scurrah and Ms Ramsey for their assistance on the day. Thank you to

Ms Ferwerda, Ms Dobby and Mrs Chan for their ongoing assistance at rehearsals and music

performances. Congratulations to all the choristers in working together to create some

beautiful music that we can share with the wider community.

Walk to School

October, 2019.

Burwood Heights Primary School has joined the hundreds of primary schools across Victoria for

a fun month of walking, riding and scooting to and from school. By participating, we have a

chance to win some great prizes!

During October 2019, we will be encouraging our entire school to walk, ride and scoot to

school. If your child can’t walk, ride or scoot to school, there are heaps of ways they can still

get involved in the fun. Parents can drop off their children a few blocks from the entrance to

the school and walk the rest of the way or helping their kids to meet up with friends before

school to walk around the oval.

Kids are healthier and happier when they’re active every day. Walking kids to school is a great

opportunity to get them active and build their confidence and life skills. It’s also a chance for

everyone to spend some quality family time together.

Studies show that it takes 30 days to build a habit. The longer we do something healthy, the

more likely that healthy habit will stick. That’s why Walk to School lasts for an entire month, ra-

ther than a single day.

It’s about building healthy habits for life.

Active schools make for active learners

Spotlight On…..

On Wednesday 7th August, the Prep students celebrated 100 Days of school. They had a wonderful day, celebrating the day with lots of activities, dancing at the disco and eat-

ing lots of yummy food at the party. Prep W wrote a re-count about their special day, reflecting on their experi-

ences and sequencing the events of the day.
